WEEK 18

BIBLE/HISTORY
The memory verse for this week was "The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good." Proverbs 15:3 Ryder practiced handwriting by writing out the Bible verse and he went over the verse daily. On Monday we read a history story about George Washington Carver to go along with the character trait we are studying this week. The rest of the week we reviewed the definition of responsibility. We also learned about the books of the Bible Lamentations through Hosea. We studied Jacob and Joseph. And added pictures of these events to the timeline.
 



 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Lesson 33 and 34 in All About Reading Level 3. He also had several handwriting and phonics worksheets. He finished up All About Spelling Level 1 Lesson 12. He did First Language Lessons Level 1 Lessons 59 through 61. He continued with reading a story from his Bible Reader about Jacob and Joseph. And he illustrated the stories in his Bible notebook.

 MATH
Ryder finished Lessons 65 through 68 in Horizons Math 1.
 SCIENCE
The topic was "Measuring." We read the Usborne book: Things Outdoors.
 ART
Ryder continued with "Enjoying Art Together" this week. We studied the artwork "Hunters in the Snow" by Pieter Bruegel. Ryder did a great job examining the picture and answering questions about the painting.

WEEK 17

BIBLE/HISTORY
The memory verse for this week was "A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed." Proverbs 11:25 Ryder practiced handwriting by writing out the Bible verse and he went over the verse daily. We also did one devotional from "My Big Book of 5-minute Devotionals." We started a new character trait that we will be learning and reviewing for the next 4 weeks. This month we are focusing on responsibility. On Monday, the boys watched a nature story about a bald eagle and did a coloring sheet. The rest of the week we reviewed the definition of responsibility. We also learned about the books of the Bible Ecclesiastes through Jeremiah. We studied Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Esau and Jacob. And added pictures of these events to the timeline.


 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Lesson 31 and 32 in All About Reading Level 3. He also had several handwriting and phonics worksheets. He did half of All About Spelling Level 1 Lesson 12. He did First Language Lessons Level 1 Lessons 55 through 58. He continued with reading a story from his Bible Reader about Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, and Rebekah. And he illustrated the stories in his Bible notebook.
 MATH
Ryder finished Lessons 61 through 64 in Horizons Math 1.
 SCIENCE
The topic was "Snow and Ice." We read the Usborne book: Things Outdoors. The boys also made paper snowflakes!

  ART
Ryder continued with "Enjoying Art Together" this week. We studied the artwork "The Halt of the Caravan" by Gustavo Simoni. Ryder did a great job examining the picture and answering questions about the painting.

WEEK 16

BIBLE/HISTORY
The memory verse for this week was "Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him." Proverbs 30:5 Ryder practiced handwriting by writing out the Bible verse and he went over the verse daily. We reviewed the definition of patience. We also learned about the books of the Bible Esther through Proverbs. We studied Noah, the Tower of Babel, and Abram. And added pictures of these events to the timeline.



 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Lesson 29 and 30 in All About Reading Level 3. He also had several handwriting and phonics worksheets. He did All About Spelling Level 1 Lesson 11. He did First Language Lessons Level 1 Lessons 52 through 54. He continued with reading a story from his Bible Reader about Noah and the Tower of Babel. And he illustrated the stories in his Bible notebook.

 MATH
Ryder finished Lessons 58 through 60 in Horizons Math 1. He got a 42/44 on his 6th Math test.
 SCIENCE
The topic was "Rainbows." We read the Usborne book: Things Outdoors and Usborne Starting Point Science.
 ART
Ryder continued with "Enjoying Art Together" this week. We studied the artwork "Henry Pelham (Boy with a Squirrel)" by John Singleton Copley. Ryder did a great job examining the picture and answering questions about the painting.

WEEK 15

BIBLE/HISTORY
The memory verse for this week was "He who scorns instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a command is rewarded." Proverbs 13:13 Ryder practiced handwriting by writing out the Bible verse and he went over the verse daily. We also did one devotional from "My Big Book of 5-minute Devotionals." We reviewed the definition of patience. We also learned about the books of the Bible 1 Chronicles through Nehemiah. We studied The First Sin (Adam and Eve), Cain and Abel, and the Descendants of Adam. And added pictures of these events to the timeline.


 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Lesson 27 and 28 in All About Reading Level 3. He also had several handwriting and phonics worksheets. He did First Language Lessons Level 1 Lessons 50 through 51. He continued with reading a story from his Bible Reader about Adam and Eve and Cain and Abel. And he illustrated the stories in his Bible notebook.

  MATH
Ryder finished Lessons 55 through 57 in Horizons Math 1.
 SCIENCE
The topic was "Stars and Planets." We read the Usborne book: Things Outdoors, Usborne the Big Book of Stars and Planets, and watched a Magic School Bus video.
 ART
This week Ryder finished up his Usborne Art Book. He studied "Big Ben, London" by Andre Derain. This bright London scene shows boats sailing down the river Thames, past the Houses of Parliament. The artist filled the sky with dots and dashes spreading out from the sun, to show its shining rays. Ryder colored his own view of Big Ben using any color he wanted and the same "dots and dashes" technique.
 Ryder started "Enjoying Art Together" this week. We studied the artwork "Springendes Pferd" by Franz Marc. Ryder did a great job examining the picture and answering questions about the painting.
PRESCHOOL for MERCER
This week Mercer did the letter O. He also spent time tracing shapes this week.

WEEK 14

BIBLE/HISTORY
The memory verse for this week was "He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward him for what he has done. Proverbs 19:17. Ryder practiced handwriting by writing out the Bible verse and he went over the verse daily. We also did one devotional from "My Big Book of 5-minute Devotionals." On Monday we read a history story about George Washington Carver to go along with the character trait we are studying this week. The rest of the week we reviewed the definition of patience. We also learned about the books of the Bible 1 Samuel through 2 Kings.

 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Lesson 24-26 in All About Reading Level 3. He also had several handwriting and phonics worksheets. He did First Language Lessons Level 1 Lessons 44 through 49. He continued with reading a story from his Bible Reader about day 6 and 7 of creation and illustrating it too. We also read the story about the Garden of Eden. I read the story and he retold the story to me. He also did All About Spelling Level 1 Lesson 9 and 10.


 MATH
Ryder finished Lessons 49 through 54 in Horizons Math 1. He also got a 40/41 on Test #5!
 SCIENCE
The topic was "Volcanoes." We read the Usborne book: Things Outdoors and watched a Magic School Bus video.
 ART
This week Ryder studied the painting "Rhinoceros" by Albrecht Durer. This odd-looking rhinoceros was drawn 500 years ago. The artist had never seen a rhino - only read about them. In the past, pictures were often printed in black and white, and then colored by hand. Ryder used his imagination to color two rhinoceroses.
