WEEK 7

BIBLE/HISTORY
The memory verse for this week was "He who gathers crops in summer is a wise son." Proverbs 10:5a. Ryder practiced handwriting by writing out the Bible verse and he went over the verse daily. Each morning we also did a devotional from "My Big Book of 5-minute Devotionals." We continued our daily review of the character trait enthusiasm. On Monday, Ryder, Mercer, and mommy each colored a piece to an "enthusiasm" puzzle. We talked about how if one part of the puzzle was missing, then we wouldn't be able to see the whole picture.

 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Lesson 10 and 11 in All About Reading Level 3. He also had several handwriting and phonics worksheets. He did All About Spelling Level 1 Lesson 4 and First Language Lessons Level 1 Lessons 10 through 13.

 MATH
Ryder finished Lessons 19 through 22 in Horizons Math 1 and took Test #2.
 SCIENCE
The topic was "Seasons." We read the Usborne book: Things Outdoors and the book Sunshine Makes the Seasons. We discussed the poles and equator, etc.
  ART
This week Ryder painted "Happy Bug Day" by Andy Warhol. Andy Warhol created stylish pictures in bright colors and sometimes the color flowed over the lines.
 PRESCHOOL for MERCER
This week Mercer did the letter G.

WEEK 6

BIBLE/HISTORY
The memory verse for this week was "Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones." Proverbs 16:24. Ryder practiced handwriting by writing out the Bible verse and he went over the verse daily. Each morning we also did a devotional from "My Big Book of 5-minute Devotionals." We continued our daily review of the character trait enthusiasm. On Monday, I read a history story about Teddy Roosevelt that related to enthusiasm.

We also talked about our family history and we hung a family picture from this year on our timeline.
 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Lesson 7 through 9 in All About Reading Level 3. He also had several handwriting and phonics worksheets. He did All About Spelling Level 1 Lesson 3 and First Language Lessons Level 1 Lessons 6 through 9.

 MATH
Ryder finished Lessons 15 through 18 in Horizons Math 1.

SCIENCE
The topic was trees again this week. We read in our Usborne Science "Science with Plants" book and the boys did tree bark rubbing.

 ART
This week Ryder colored "Dynamism of Light Forms in Space" by Gino Severini. He learned that the artist wanted to celebrate the movement and energy of modern life so he used a jumble of shapes, colors and textures to make a bright, busy patchwork. Ryder filled shapes with different colors and patterns.
 RENEWED MOMS
Here is a picture that Ryder's science teacher sent me of him and Cooper at Renewed Moms on Thursday! They learned about toucans this week and had a fun project!
 PRESCHOOL for MERCER
This week Mercer did the letter F. He also did really well participating and answering questions during our Bible study each morning.

WEEK 5

BIBLE/HISTORY
The memory verse for this week was "He would guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity." Proverbs 21:23 Ryder practiced handwriting by writing out the Bible verse and he went over the verse daily. Each morning we also did a devotional from "My Big Book of 5-minute Devotionals." We started a new character trait that we will be learning and reviewing for the next 4 weeks. This month we are focusing on enthusiasm. On Monday, the boys watched a nature story about the humpback whale and did a coloring sheet. The rest of the week we reviewed the definition of enthusiasm.

I also got our timeline hung on the wall! And I cannot wait to start adding to it each week!
 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Lesson 5 and 6 in All About Reading Level 3. He also had several handwriting and phonics worksheets. He did All About Spelling Level 1 Lesson 2 and First Language Lessons Level 1 Lessons 2-5.

  MATH
Ryder finished Lessons 11 through 14 in Horizons Math 1.
  SCIENCE
The topic this week was trees. We read in our Usborne Science "Things Outdoors" book and read a few read-alouds about trees. We discussed leaves, bark, growth rings and roots.
 ART
This week Ryder colored "The Sorrows of the King" by Henri Matisse. In the original artwork colored shapes were cut out of painted paper and pasted into place. The swirling leaf shapes suggest music and movement filling the air. Ryder added leaf-shaped stickers to his artwork to represent movement.
 PRESCHOOL for MERCER
This week Mercer did the letter E. He finished all his papers in 3 days so sorry for the lack of photos from his week!
