WEEK 12

BIBLE
This week the theme was birds. We studied several different birds in the Bible and their significance.
 
SPELLING
Ryder did Lesson 12 and got a 100 on his spelling test.
 
VOCABULARY
Ryder did Wordly Wise Lesson 3.
 
ENGLISH
Ryder did Unit 2 Lessons 17-20.
 
 HISTORY
This week Ryder studied Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Georgia. He colored the state birds and flowers, learned the capitals, and wrote the state abbreviations. He also found the states on the map of the USA. He made a Liberty Bell! The boys ate Johnny Cakes since that is what pioneers ate around that time. And we had peach cobbler when we studied the Georgia Peach state!



  
HEALTH
This week Ryder learned about keeping himself clean.
 
MATH
Ryder did Lessons 45-48. He also continued Life of Fred Apples and completed chapters 11 through 13.
 
ART
Ryder studied positive and negative space this week.
 
PRESCHOOL
Mercer studied W and X this week.


MUSIC
We listened to the song "Yankee Doodle" and "Yankee Doodle Dandy."
 
SCIENCE
This week the kids had a Halloween party! Yummy food, Fruit Basket Turnover, and Halloween-themed books were the activities! They finished their solar system models and had to name all the planets before they could get their treat bag!

WEEK 11

BIBLE
We continued studying the verse from last week: "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink." John 7:37. We talked about Jesus being the giver of Living Water.
 
SPELLING
Ryder did Lesson 11 and got a 100 on his spelling test.
 
ENGLISH
Ryder did Unit 2 Lessons 13-16.
 
HISTORY
This week Ryder learned about George Washington becoming the first President of the United States. We also started our state study! The first state Ryder learned about was Delaware. He found it on the map and colored it, learned the state bird, flower, and capital. He also learned how to write the abbreviation! To finish up the week we made a Delaware Fruit Snack called Delaware Double-Fruit Delight which was layers of yogurt, peaches, and strawberries! The boys loved it. We finished up the read aloud "Sarah Whitcher's Story" and talked about the hymn sung in the last chapter, the Doxology.
 
 
 
 HEALTH
This week Ryder learned how to use a water fountain.
 
MATH
Ryder did Lessons 41-44. He also continued Life of Fred Apples and completed chapters 7 through 10.
 
ART
Ryder looked at French and Indian War paintings and found uses of lines and contemporary colors in them.
 
PRESCHOOL
Mercer studied U and V this week. He also reviewed syllables and played a game using word with 1, 2, or 3 syllables.
 
 
 
MUSIC
We listened to the song "Yankee Doodle" and "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and learned about the history behind "Yankee Doodle Dandy."
 
SCIENCE
This week we met at Phoenix and Fox's house on Wednesday to finish painting the planets for the solar system model that we will turn in next week. On Thursday, we met at the church building where we usually meet and the kids reviewed the planets, pretended they were astronauts and felt moon rocks, and they played in space sensory bins!

 
 
 
PE
After Science class the kids participated in an organized PE class. They learned 4-square and played dodgeball. They were worn out!

WEEK 10

BIBLE
The verse this week was "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink." John 7:37. Ryder did a handwriting worksheet with the verse and he colored a water drop with the verse on it and we have it on our water pitcher to remind us that Jesus is the Giver of Living Water!

 
SPELLING
Ryder did Lesson 10 and got a 100 on his spelling test.
 
ENGLISH
Ryder did Unit 2 Lessons 9-12.
 
VOCABULARY
Ryder did Wordly Wise Lesson 2.
 
HISTORY
This week Ryder learned about the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson, the Revolutionary War, and how the United States became a free country and got our flag! He added the Declaration of Independence and the US Becoming a Coutnry to our timeline. We also read a few chapters in our readaloud book "Sarah Whitcher's Story." Ryder colored a picture of the 13 colonies, we made ink out of berries and Ryder wrote his name using a feather "pen," and he wrote a summary on the US becoming a country.


 
HEALTH
This week Ryder reviewed the past few lessons.
 
MATH
Ryder did Lessons 37-40. He got a 75/77 on his 4th test. We also started Life of Fred Apples and did chapters 3-6.
 
ART
Ryder learned about studied portraits of Daniel Boone and found different lines and contemporary colors in the portraits.
 
PRESCHOOL
Mercer did S and T this week. He also learned about syllables and practiced clapping out words for 2 and 3 syllables.
 
 MUSIC
We listened to the song "Yankee Doodle" again this week and we made and tasted "Hasty Pudding!"

WEEK 9

*Sorry in advance for the lack of pictures this week! We had a new roof put on our house, a house showing, a dentist appointment, a doctors appointment, and we met daddy for lunch one day! Needless to say it was a busy week!*
 
BIBLE
The verse this week was the same as last week "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock." Matthew 7:24. We read through some Psalms about God being our rock.
 
SPELLING
Ryder did Lesson 9 and got a 100 on his spelling test.
 
ENGLISH
Ryder did Unit 2 Lessons 5-8.
 
VOCABULARY
Ryder finished Wordly Wise 2 Lesson 1.
 
HISTORY
This week Ryder learned about George Washington. He added him to our timeline. We also started the book "Sarah Whitcher's Story." Ryder made a tricorn hat. This also tied into our art lesson this week.

 
 HEALTH
This week Ryder learned how to take care of his room.
 
MATH
Ryder did Lessons 33-36. We also started Life of Fred Apples and did chapters 1 and 2.
 
ART
Ryder learned about tricorn hats and made one for himself!
 
PRESCHOOL
Mercer did Q and R this week. He also learned about syllables and learned to clap them.
 
MUSIC
We listened to the song "Yankee Doodle" this week and learned the history behind the song.

WEEK 8

BIBLE
The verse this week was "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock." Matthew 7:24. We sang the songs "Rock of Ages" and "The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock." We read about Jesus being our "rock." And Ryder did this handwriting worksheet.
 
 SPELLING
Ryder did Lesson 8 and got a 100 on his spelling test.
 
ENGLISH
Ryder did Unit 2 Lessons 1-4.
 
VOCABULARY
I started Wordly Wise 2 Lesson 1 with Ryder this week. He did really great and I am excited about adding this curriculum to our studies!

HISTORY
This week Ryder learned about Benjamin Franklin. He added him to our timeline and he made an almanac! We also finished up the book "The Courage of Sarah Noble."


 
HEALTH
This week Ryder learned how to set the table.
 
MATH
Ryder did Lessons 30-32. He got a 78/80 on Test #3!
 
ART
Ryder learned about limners and we looked at different portraits that limners created.
 
PRESCHOOL
Mercer did O and P this week. He also learned how to count how many words are in each sentence.

 
MUSIC
We listened to the song "America" this week. We focused on the fourth verse.

SCIENCE
This week our co-op painted the planets Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn for our Solar System model and they watched a Magic School Bud: Lost in Space video. At home we learned the moon phases and did a fun project creating them out of Oreos! The boys had more fun eating their Oreos :) We also studied the planets Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn and they drew pictures of them for their notebook.
