WEEK 23

BIBLE
The Bible verse this week was Colossians 1:18, "And he is the head of the body, the church..." We talked about Jesus being the head of the body again and we learned how all Christians are joined together just like the human body. God made us different from each other and gave us different gifts that we can do. We also learned how we should treat one another.

 SPELLING
Ryder did Lesson 23 and got an 11/12 on his spelling test.
 
ENGLISH
Ryder did Unit 4 Lessons 5-8. He also did Lesson 9 in Wordly Wise.
 
HISTORY
This week Ryder studied the states Maine, Missouri, Arkansas, and Michigan! He colored the state bird and flower, learned the capital, and wrote the state abbreviation. He also found the states on the map of the USA. We read chapters 17-21 of "On the Banks of Plum Creek."
 
HEALTH
This week Ryder learned about safety in the streets and about the different signs.
 
MATH
Ryder did Lessons 89-92. He got a 56/57 on test #9.
 
ART
Ryder studied landscape paintings this week.
 
MUSIC
We listened to the song "The Star-Spangled Banner."
 
PRESCHOOL
This week Mercer did activities for the letters "q," "r " and "s." He also worked on activities to decipher the ending sound of words. His handwriting is really improving!

WEEK 22

BIBLE
The Bible verse this week was Colossians 1:18, "And he is the head of the body, the church..." We talked about Jesus being the head of the body (the church) and it controls all parts just like our brain is in our head and it controls our whole body. All parts of the body are important and must work together. We also talked about Ezekiel.
 
SPELLING
Ryder did Lesson 22 and got a 100 on his spelling test.
 
ENGLISH
Ryder did Unit 4 Lessons 1-4. He also did Lesson 8 in Wordly Wise.
 
HISTORY
This week Ryder studied the states Illinois and Alabama! He colored the state bird and flower, learned the capital, and wrote the state abbreviation. He also found the states on the map of the USA. We ate sweet potatoes because we learned about George Washington Carver and how he invented more than 300 products with peanuts and 118 products with sweet potatoes! Ryder also learned about the pioneers traveling west by wagon train. We read chapters 12-16 of "On the Banks of Plum Creek."

 
 HEALTH
This week Ryder learned about littering.
 
 MATH
Ryder did Lessons 85-88. He did Life of Fred Butterflies chapters 11-13.
 
ART
Ryder created a flag this week! He decided to draw the American flag since we were learning about it in history.
 
MUSIC
We listened to the song "The Star-Spangled Banner."
 
PRESCHOOL
This week Mercer did activities for the letters "o" and "p." He also worked on activities to decipher the beginning sound of different words.

 SCIENCE
This week the boys learned about fossils, gems, and minerals.

WEEK 21

BIBLE
The Bible verse this week was John 15:5, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." We talked about Elijah obeying God and God giving him food during the famine for his obedience. We also learned about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and the fruits of the spirit.
 
SPELLING
Ryder did Lesson 21 and got a 100 on his spelling test.
 
ENGLISH
Ryder did Unit 3 Lesson 25, a review and a test. He also did Lesson 7 in Wordly Wise.
 
HISTORY
This week Ryder studied the states Indiana and Mississippi! He colored the state bird and flower, learned the capital, and wrote the state abbreviation. He also found the states on the map of the USA. Ryder learned about Robert Fulton and his invention of the steamboat. We also ate popcorn the day we studied Indiana because Orville Redenbacher was from Indiana and that's where he first started selling his popcorn! Ryder added the Robert Fulton to the timeline. We read chapters 7-11 of "On the Banks of Plum Creek."

 
HEALTH
This week Ryder learned about taking care of his teeth.
 
MATH
Ryder did Lessons 81-84. He did Life of Fred Butterflies chapters 9-10.
 
ART
Ryder studied Lewis and Clark artwork and pointed out the different textures used.
 
MUSIC
We listened to the song "The Star-Spangled Banner."
 
PRESCHOOL
This week Mercer did activities for the letters "m" and "n." He also worked on deciphering beginning sounds of words.

 
SCIENCE
This week in co-op the kids learned about rocks!

WEEK 20

BIBLE
The Bible verse this week was John 15:5, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." We talked about how Jesus is the vine and we are the branches with illustrations of a gardener with bearing his fruit and pruning his trees.
 
SPELLING
Ryder did Lesson 20 and got a 100 on his spelling test.
 
ENGLISH
Ryder did Unit 3 Lessons 21-24.
 
HISTORY
This week Ryder studied the state, Louisiana! He colored the state bird and flower, learned the capital, and wrote the state abbreviation. He also found the state on the map of the USA. Ryder learned about Thomas Jefferson and the Louisiana Purchase and the War of 1812. He added the Louisiana Purchase to the timeline. We started a new read aloud book, "On the Banks of Plum Creek," and read chapters 1-6.

 
HEALTH
This week Ryder did a review lesson.
 
MATH
Ryder did Lessons 77-80. He got a 52/55 on Test #8.
 
ART
Ryder studied Lewis and Clark drawings and then drew his own picture of an object around the house.

MUSIC
We listened to the song "The Star-Spangled Banner" and studied its background.
 
PRESCHOOL
This week Mercer did activities for the letters "k" and "l." He also worked on deciphering beginning sounds of words.
