2016-2017 Curriculum Choices

I can't believe it is almost time to start back to school again! Ryder will be in 3rd grade this year and Mercer will be in Kindergarten. On Wednesday afternoons the boys will go to a class for their grade level that just reviews the basic foundations subjects. And on Thursday mornings, they will do a combined class like they participated in last year that will cover geography and science (with a few music and art lessons too!).

GROGRAPHY/BIBLE
We are using My Father's World Exploring Countries and Cultures this year for the bulk of our curriculum. We are actually spreading this out over the next two years and adding in more countries. I love the way that you can teach multiple students/grade levels with the same curriculum. For geography we will be studying countries and maps. For Bible, we will be studying the book of Matthew as well as using the books Hero Tales and Window on the World.

MATH
Ryder will be using Horizons Math 3 and Mercer will be using Horizons Math K.

LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder will be using Rod and Staff Beginning Wisely 3 for English and Beyond the Code 1, a Scholastic Reading Comprehension book, and just reading various chapter books for reading.

Mercer will be using All About Reading Level 1 and Explode the Code 1 and 2 for reading.

Ryder will be using Rod and Staff Spelling by Sound and Structure 3 for spelling and Pentime 3 for continuing his cursive handwriting.

Mercer will be using In the Beginning K and A Reason for Handwriting K for handwriting. I am not sure which one will be best for him, so I got both for him to try!

SCIENCE
Science will be spread out over the next two years too and we will be using Apologia Exploring Creation with Zoology 2 and 3 (Swimming Creatures and Land Animals) and Answers in Genesis Properties of Ecosystems.

ART
We will be using Global Art and Geography Through Art.

MUSIC
We will be using WeeSing Around the World and Geography Songs

P.E.
We will be using Fit Factor Kids and the boys will also be playing basketball and baseball.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE
I am going to try this DVD for foreign language this year. I am wanting the boys to try and learn sign language!
