They both did handwriting.
Ryder did lesson 27-29 this week in English.
Mercer did Lesson 40-41 in All About Reading Level 1.
Ryder had reading time every day. He started reading the book "Encyclopedia Brown: Boy Detective."

GEOGRAPHY
This week we finished up our study of Brazil. We read about Brazil in "Children's Atlas of God's World" and we looked at different maps of South America.

SCIENCE
We read several read-aloud books about the rainforest. We read about the different colors of the rainforest, water birds, and rain forest hunters in our "Living World Encyclopedia." Also, we did an experiment on bird's feathers. We learned their feathers are covered in oil and repel water. So we took 2 paper feathers and covered the right one in oil. Then we sprinkled water on each feather. The feather without the oil soaked up the water. The feather with the oil repelled the water!

MATH
Mercer did lessons 77-80 in Horizons Math. Ryder did lessons 42-45 in Teaching Textbooks.

CO-OP
Thursday we went to the zoo with all our friends to see the Primates! And they had a South American snack! Butter cookies with strawberry icing, pineapple, and a pineapple drink.

We were busy for science this week! This week we continued our study of the rainforest. We specifically talked about the top two layers - emergent and canopy - and the boys each picked an animal that lives in each layer to talk about during their co-op class on Thursday. We also read more about Primates in the Apologia Land Animals book (Lesson 6). We read an Usborne reader about monkeys. In our "Living World" Encyclopedia we read about the Amazon, the rain forest floor, monkeys, apes, and climbing and gliding animals of the rainforest. Ryder also did a rainforest animal research report on toucans.

The twins enjoyed coloring during our school time a few days this week. Check out Ella's feet! She always sits in her high chair like that.

WEEK 18

BIBLE
We continued our Matthew study this week. We finished chapter 7 and started on chapter 8. We also do devotionals with daddy most nights before bed. Last night we talked about "love" so Robbie thought of a great idea for the boys to do in school today: They drew a heart and wrote inside the heart things they love.

The geography-themed vocabulary words that Ryder learned about this week were delta and jungle.

SCIENCE
We continued our study of the rainforest this week. We talked specifically about the first two layers. They each picked an animal from each layer and learned some facts about them to share with their co-op class. We also did a little bit of reading about Primates in Apologia Land Animals Lesson 6.

MATH
Mercer did lessons 69-72 in Horizons Math. Ryder did lessons 35-37 in Teaching Textbooks.

MUSIC
We listened to "Michacra" on our WeeSing CD.

CO-OP
This week during class they gave their presentations on their animals and they drew pictures of animals and added them to their rainforest they are making. Here is a sneak peek of layers 1 and 2...

They also played Jeopardy to remember the characteristics of primates. They learned a difference in primates and humans through a little experiment. Primates have opposable thumbs and toes and can even eat with their toes, so they tried to see if they could eat Skittles with their toes (which is virtually impossible for humans because we do not have opposable toes). They also read Ivan: The Remarkable True Story of the Shopping Mall Gorilla which is a true story about a silverback gorilla who was captured, displayed in a shopping mall, then taken to the Atlanta Zoo where he died in 2012 at the age of 50.
