WEEK 29

This week we have had another round of sickness in the family. We didn't get a whole lot of school work done but it worked out because we were on Spring Break from our Co-Op that does Geography and Science so it was going to be a shorter week anyways. I didn't take any pictures since all we got done was language arts and math!

 

LANGUAGE ARTS

Ryder did Spelling Lesson 29 and got a 16/16 on his spelling test.

They both did handwriting.

Mercer did Lesson 6-7 in All About Reading Level 2.

Ryder had reading time every day. He red chapters 1-10 in the book "Fantastic Mr. Fox."

For read aloud time we read several children's books.

MATH

Mercer did lessons 113-115 in Horizons Math. Ryder did lessons 76-78 in Teaching Textbooks.



WEEK 28

BIBLE

This week we read about Spain in "Window on the World." The boys also did a coloring page for John 3:16 in German.

LANGUAGE ARTS

Ryder did Spelling Lesson 28 and got a 16/16 on his spelling test.

They both did handwriting.

Ryder did lesson 48-49 this week in English.

Mercer did Lesson 3-5 in All About Reading Level 2.

Ryder had reading time every day. He finished the book "Ivan and the Informer."

For read aloud time we read several children's books.

 

GEOGRAPHY

This week we started our study about Germany! We located the country on our map, talked about the surrounding countries and bodies of water, read facts about the country, counted to 10 in German, read about Germany in "The Children's Atlas of God's World," colored a picture of the flag and learned what the colors represent, Ryder did a student sheet on facts, they both did a decoding worksheet, they did a dot-to-dot and watched a video on the Neuschwanstein Castle! The geography-themed vocabulary words that Ryder learned about this week were headwater and mouth.

 

SCIENCE
We did Apologia Land Animals Lesson 11 about Reptiles and Amphibians! We filled about several notebooking journal pages.

MATH
Mercer did lessons 109-112 in Horizons Math. Ryder did lessons 72-75 in Teaching Textbooks.

MUSIC
We listened to the WeeSing songs "Swiss Hiking Song" and "All My Little Ducklings."

 

CO-OP
For Science, the kids did several journal activities for our Apologia study and we did a worksheet on the frog life cycle.

For Geography, the kids made a book about Germany and did a speech on a fact they had learned about the country.

LANGUAGE ARTS

Ryder did Spelling Lesson 27 and got a 16/16 on his spelling test.

They both did handwriting.

Ryder did lesson 46-47 this week in English.

Mercer did Lesson 2 in All About Reading Level 2.

Ryder had reading time every day. He started the book "Ivan and the Informer."

For read aloud time we read several children's books.

 

GEOGRAPHY

This week we read facts about Denmark!

 

SCIENCE
We did Apologia Swimming Creatures Lesson 9 this week! All about Mollusks! We worked in our notebooking journal and the boys made colorful snails out of coffee filters!

 

MATH
Mercer did lessons 107-108 in Horizons Math. Ryder did lessons 70-71 in Teaching Textbooks.

 

CO-OP

For geography, they made the Denmark flag and wrote facts about the flag (what the colors represent) and they learned about Vikings and made Viking Runes! For science we did Apologia Swimming Creatures Lesson 9 about mollusks. We did several activities in our notebooking journal. The kids also made a 3D clam showing the insides!

WEEK 26

BIBLE

We continued our Matthew study this week and read chapter 12.

LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Spelling Lesson 26 and got a 16/16 on his spelling test.
They both did handwriting.

Ryder did lesson 43-45 this week in English.

Mercer finished All About Reading Level 1! He was so excited about his certificate! He started All About Reading Level 2 and did lesson 1.

Ryder had reading time every day. He read the book "Wheelnuts! Craziest Race on Earth! Rainforest Rumble."

For read aloud time we read several children's books.

GEOGRAPHY AND SCIENCE

This week we read facts about Finland! And we read several books about the weather!

MATH
Mercer did lessons 101-106 in Horizons Math. Ryder did lessons 66-69 in Teaching Textbooks.

 

CO-OP

For geography, Mrs. Wendy read a book about the Northern Lights and they did an art project drawing Northern Lights with oil pastels. They also made the Finland flag and wrote facts about the flag (what the colors represent). For science we did Apologia Swimming Creatures Lesson 8 about crustaceans. We did several activities in our notebooking journal. We finished early so we got to play outside for 30 minutes on the playground!

WEEK 25

BIBLE

We continued our Matthew study this week and read chapter 11.

LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Spelling Lesson 25 and got a 16/16 on his spelling test.

They both did handwriting.

Ryder did lesson 41-42 this week in English.

Mercer did Lesson 52-53 in All About Reading Level 1.

Ryder had reading time every day. He finished reading the book "Wheelnuts! Craziest Race on Earth! Spooky Smackdown" and read the books "Wheelnuts! Craziest Race on Earth! Space Mash" and "Wheelnuts! Craziest Race on Earth! Deep-Sea Dash."

For read aloud time we finished reading "Bash and the Chicken Coop Caper."

GEOGRAPHY AND SCIENCE

This week we decided to take a break from our regular country studies because we had a death in the family and stomach bug all throughout our house. So for science we read different books about our world. We also read about Animals Defenses in "Properties of Ecosystems" and we read a read-aloud Usborne book called "Shine-A-Light Animal Camouflage." For geography I let each boy pick a great city and a famous building to study. Mercer picked the Colosseum and New York City and Ryder picked the Tower of London and London and Paris.

MATH
Mercer did lessons 97-100 in Horizons Math. Ryder did lessons 62-65 in Teaching Textbooks.
