WEEK 19

BIBLE
The Bible verse this week was John 1:29, "...the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!." We talked about Jesus being the Lamb of God and we read John 3:16-17. We also read songs that are in Revelation. And Ryder made a lamb out of his handprint and cotton!
 
SPELLING
Ryder did Lesson 19 and got a 100 on his spelling test.
 
ENGLISH
Ryder did Unit 3 Lessons 17-20. He also did Lesson 6 in Wordly Wise. 
 
HISTORY
This week Ryder studied the state, Ohio! He colored the state bird and flower, learned the capital, and wrote the state abbreviation. He also found the state on the map of the USA. Ryder learned that Neil Armstrong who first walked on the moon was from Ohio! Ryder made a Primer which was a textbook that was used long ago in schools at home and the New England states. We finished the read aloud book "Farmer Boy."

 
 HEALTH
This week Ryder learned about sugar foods.
 
MATH
Ryder did Lessons 73-76. He did Life of Fred Butterflies Chapter 8.
 
ART
Ryder made this own artwork with different colors, shapes, textures, and lines!
 
MUSIC
We listened to the song "There are Many Flags."
 
PRESCHOOL
This week Mercer did activities for the letters "i" and "j."

WEEK 18

 BIBLE
The Bible verse this week was John 1:29, "...the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!." Ryder had a handwriting worksheet for the verse and we talked about the Baptism of Jesus, the plagues, and the Passover.

SPELLING
Ryder did Lesson 18 and got a 100 on his spelling test.
 
ENGLISH
Ryder did Unit 3 Lessons 13-16.
 
HISTORY
This week Ryder studied our state, Tennessee! He colored the state bird and flower, learned the capital, and wrote the state abbreviation. He also found the state on the map of the USA. He also studied about Eli Whitney and added him to the timeline. Ryder had to pull "seeds" out of cotton to understand how great of an invention the cotton gin was! We read chapters 17 and 18 in the read aloud book "Farmer Boy."





 
HEALTH
This week Ryder learned about good meal planning and the 4 basic food groups.
 
MATH
Ryder did Lessons 69-72. He got an 80/81 on test #7. He did Life of Fred Butterflies Chapter 7.
 
ART
Ryder studied Plains Indian artwork and we discussed the lines, colors, textures, and shapes in the artwork.
 
MUSIC
We listened to the song "There are Many Flags."
 
PRESCHOOL
This week Mercer did activities for the letters "g" and "h."
 
SCIENCE
This week the co-op had a Christmas party! They decorated gingerbread houses, had yummy food, and got awesome goodie bags filled with reindeer food and antlers!

WEEK 17

BIBLE
The Bible verse this week was Matthew 1:23, "...they will call him Immanuel - which means, 'God with us.' " We read a story in Exodus and Joshua about Moses and Joshua. We read scripture about the important things Jesus told his disciples before He left earth. Ryder had to copy Joshua 1:9 and talk about its meaning.
 
SPELLING
Ryder did Lesson 17 and got a 100 on his spelling test.
 
ENGLISH
Ryder did Unit 3 Lessons 9-12. He also did Lesson 5 in Wordly Wise.
 
 
HISTORY
This week Ryder read a story in the American Pioneers and Patriots book and learned how Pioneers made cloth. We also talked a little more about Daniel Boone and how he tied into the state that we studied this week, Kentucky. He colored the state bird and flower, learned the capital, and wrote the state abbreviation. He also found the state on the map of the USA. We read chapters 13-16 in the read aloud book "Farmer Boy."
 
HEALTH
This week Ryder learned about germs and how to prevent spreading the common cold (cough and sneezing).
 
MATH
Ryder did Lessons 65-68. He did Life of Fred Butterflies Chapter 6.
 
ART
Ryder studied about the artist Chardin and he observed many of his paintings. He pointed out the use of color, texture, and lines in the paintings.
 
MUSIC
We listened to the song "America the Beautiful."
 
SCIENCE
The Science Co-op continued their study of earth.
 
PRESCHOOL
This week Mercer did activities for the letters "e" and "f."

WEEK 16

BIBLE
This week we had a short week due to Thanksgiving so we focused on reading verses daily that talked about praising and giving thanks to God. Ryder also made a list of things to thank God for.

SPELLING
Ryder did Lesson 16 and got a 11/12 on his spelling test.
 
ENGLISH
Ryder did Unit 3 Lessons 5-8.
 
HISTORY
This week we read "The Thanksgiving Story." We read chapters 11-12 in the read aloud book "Farmer Boy."
 
 HEALTH
This week Ryder learned about having good posture.
 
MATH
Ryder did Lessons 61-64. He did Life of Fred Butterflies Chapter 5.
 
ART
Ryder studied different textures used in art and looked at several different artwork pieces with different textures.
 
PRESCHOOL
This week Mercer did activities for the letters "c" and "d."

WEEK 15

BIBLE
This week the Bible verse was "...they will call him Immanuel - which means 'God with us'." Matthew 1:23 He did a handwriting worksheet on the verse. We sang the song "O Come, O Come Emmanuel." And we talked about God always being with us even when we get lost.
 
SPELLING
Ryder did Lesson 15 and got a 100 on his spelling test.
 
ENGLISH
Ryder did Unit 3 Lessons 1-4. He also did Wordly Wise Lesson 4.
 
HISTORY
This week Ryder studied Rhode Island and Vermont. He colored the state birds and flowers, learned the capitals, and wrote the state abbreviations. He also found the states on the map of the USA. We also studied Daniel Boone and Ryder colored a picture of Daniel to add to our timeline. We read chapters 7-10 in the read aloud book "Farmer Boy."
 
HEALTH
This week Ryder learned about taking care of his eyes.
 
MATH
Ryder did Lessons 57-60. He got a 70/73 on Test #6. He started Life of Fred Butterflies and did chapters 1-4.
 
ART
Ryder looked at this Paul Revere artwork and he found positive and negative space, contemporary colors, and 3 examples of lines.
MUSIC
We listened to the song "America the Beautiful."
 
PRESCHOOL
This week Mercer started lowercase letters and he did "a" and "b."
 
SCIENCE
The Science Co-op started a new unit this week on Planet Earth! They did a model of the different landmarks on earth.

WEEK 14

BIBLE
This week the Bible verse was "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.' " John 14:6. We discussed Jesus being The Way and read the story about God freeing the Israelite's when they were slaves in Egypt, We also talked about the Tabernacle and the history behind the Apostle Paul.
 
SPELLING
Ryder did Lesson 14 and got a 100 on his spelling test.
 
ENGLISH
Ryder did Unit 2 Lesson 25, Review 1 and 2, and Test 1 and 2! Daddy helped Ryder on his English lesson on Monday!
 
 HISTORY
This week Ryder studied New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, and North Carolina. He colored the state birds and flowers, learned the capitals, and wrote the state abbreviations.   While studying New York, he did a study on the Statue of Liberty. He also found the states on the map of the USA. Ryder also made a paper airplane and flew it in the air to see how many seconds it would fly! This was a fun project to do while learning about the Wright Brothers and their airplane invention! We read chapters 4-6 in the read aloud book "Farmer Boy."
 




 HEALTH
This week Ryder learned about the 5 brushes that help keep us clean.
 
MATH
Ryder did Lessons 53-56.

ART
Ryder looked at Revolutionary War art and found the negative space in the art.
 
MUSIC
We listened to the song "America the Beautiful."

WEEK 13

BIBLE
This week the Bible verse was "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.' " John 14:6. We discussed different routes to get to one place, but there's only one route to get the Heaven. We also talked about Jesus being a light in darkness and He is the one that guides us just like a flashlight can help when we are in a dark room or outside. Ryder did a handwriting sheet for writing out the Bible verse.
 
SPELLING
Ryder did Lesson 13 and got a 100 on his spelling test.
 
ENGLISH
Ryder did Unit 2 Lessons 21-24.
 
 HISTORY
This week Ryder studied Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, and South Carolina. He colored the state birds and flowers, learned the capitals, and wrote the state abbreviations. He also found the states on the map of the USA. We started the read aloud book "Farmer Boy" and read chapters 1-3. And we did the popcorn and milk observation like they talked about in chapter 3. It was neat that the milk didn't overflow when we added a full cup of popcorn to it!




 
 HEALTH
This week Ryder learned about getting our rest.
 
MATH
Ryder did Lessons 49-52. He got an 82/86 on Test #5. He also finished Life of Fred Apples.
 
ART
Ryder did a project on positive and negative space this week.
 
PRESCHOOL
Mercer studied Y and Z this week finishing up our capital letter study.
 
MUSIC
We listened to the song "America the Beautiful" and discussed the history behind the song.
 
SCIENCE
This week the kids had a review week to finish up the space study. They played several review games!
