WEEK 30

BIBLE

The Bible verse this week was John 11:25, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies." We read the Bible stories on Jesus bringing the dead back to life.

 

SPELLING

Ryder did Lesson 30 which was a review lesson and got a 24/25 on his spelling test.

 

ENGLISH

Ryder did Unit 5 Lessons 5-8. He also did Lesson 15 in Wordly Wise to finish up his vocabulary book for the year. This week he also started cursive handwriting!

 

HISTORY

This week Ryder studied the states of Colorado! He colored the state bird and flower, learned the capital, and wrote the state abbreviation. He also found the state on the map of the USA. He learned about the Transcontinental Railroad too. And he colored a map of the USA of the different areas the USA was broken up into according to when the states were established. We also read chapters 1-4 in the new read aloud, "In Grandma's Attic."

 

MATH

Ryder did Lessons 117-120. He got a 38/41 on Test #12.

 

ART

This week Ryder studied how slaves made quilts and used patterns to send secret messages. He learned the different meanings behind quilt patterns and he chose a quilt pattern design to color himself! The pattern he chose was the monkey wrench.

 

MUSIC

We listened to the song "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."

 

PRESCHOOL

This week Mercer worked on letter sounds and handwriting for "Kk, Ll, Mm, and Nn."

 

SCIENCE

Thursday the boys had an Easter party with their co-op! Mrs. Wendy read the Easter story of Jesus and the kids did a craft with donuts making the tomb and the stone that was rolled away. We ate yummy food and the kids hunted Easter eggs too!



WEEK 29

BIBLE

The Bible verse this week was John 10:14, "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep, and my sheep know me." We read some different psalms that David wrote.

 

SPELLING

Ryder did Lesson 29 and got a 12/12 on his spelling test.

 

ENGLISH

Ryder did Unit 5 Lessons 1-4. He also did Wordly Wise Lesson 13 and 14.

 

HISTORY

This  week Ryder studied the states of Kansas, West Virginia, Nevada, and Nebraska! He colored the state bird and flower, learned the capital, and wrote the state abbreviation. He also found the states on the map of the USA. We also learned about the drink "switchel" and made some to try! The boys LOVED it! We also finished the read aloud book, "Mountain Born."

 

HEALTH

This week Ryder learned about machinery and tool safety. And he also finished up health with a review lesson!

 

MATH

Ryder did Lessons 113-116. He also finished Life of Fred Butterflies book.

 

ART

This week Ryder studied different patterns in art.

 

MUSIC

We listened to the song "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."

 

PRESCHOOL

This week Mercer worked on letter sounds and handwriting for "Gg, Hh, Ii, and Jj."

WEEK 28

BIBLE

The Bible verse this week was John 10:14, "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep, and my sheep know me." Ryder learned about Jesus being the Good Shepherd and how we are His sheep and He always remembers us.

 

SPELLING

Ryder did Lesson 28 and got a 12/12 on his spelling test.

 

ENGLISH

Ryder did Unit 4 Lessons 25, Review 1 and 2, and Test 1 and 2. He got a 50/50 on test #1 and a 47/50 on test #2. He also did Wordly Wise Lesson 12.

Ryder got the game Silly Sentences for Christmas so we played it one night this week and the sentences ended up being really funny!

HISTORY

This week Ryder finished up his study on Abraham Lincoln and he learned all about the Civil War. We also started a new read aloud book, "Mountain Born," and we read chapters 1-4.

 

HEALTH

This week Ryder learned about fire safety.

 

MATH

Ryder did Lessons 109-112. He got a 48/50 on Test #11. We also did Life of Fred Butterflies Chapter 15.

 

ART

This week Ryder looked at artwork during times of slavery and he found different examples of organic and geometric shape.

 

MUSIC

We listened to the song "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and learned the background of the song and it's author.

 

PRESCHOOL

This week Mercer worked on letter sounds and handwriting for "Dd, Ee, and Ff."

 

SCIENCE

This week the boys learned all about the different climates on the earth.

 

WEEK 27

BIBLE

The Bible verse this week was Matthew 20:28, "... the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." We talked about the story of washing the disciples feet and we also discussed things that we have (possessions and abilities) that God has given us and how we should use them wisely for His Kingdom. We also talked about when Jesus returns. 

 

SPELLING

Ryder did Lesson 27 and got a 11/12 on his spelling test.

 

ENGLISH

Ryder did Unit 4 Lessons 21-24.

 

HISTORY

This week Ryder studied the states of Minnesota and Oregon! He colored the state bird and flower, learned the capital, and wrote the state abbreviation. He also found the states on the map of the USA. Ryder also learned about Abraham Lincoln. We read the rest of "On the Banks of Plum Creek."

 

 HEALTH

This week Ryder learned about safety of medicine cabinets.

 

MATH

Ryder did Lessons 105-108.

 

ART

This week Ryder studied organic and geometric shape and created an artwork using both forms of shape.

 

 MUSIC

We listened to the song "Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean."

 

PRESCHOOL

This week Mercer worked on letter sounds and handwriting for "Aa, Bb, and Cc." He is a silly little one and I captured this picture while he was learning his Bible verse for Science!
