WEEK 15

LANGUAGE ARTS
 Mercer did Lesson 10 in All About Reading Level 3, the second half of WriteShop Level A Lesson 7 and all of WriteShop Level A Lesson 8, 6 pages in Explode the Code Book 3, and Lesson 8 in handwriting.
 
Ryder took 2 timed reading tests and did 3 pages in his Word Roots workbook.
 

 
MATH
Mercer did Day 98-103 in his Easy Peasy Math workbook.
Ryder did Lessons 51-53 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
 
 SCIENCE
Ryder learned about electromagnets and generators and took his Chapter 5 test. 

 

SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 15 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer studied about Death Valley, Yosemite National Park, San Francisco, and the Pacific Coast.
Ryder learned about the Presidents Arthur, Cleveland, and Harrison.
Both boys did a study on the Thanksgiving holiday.

 
CRITICAL THINKING
Mercer and Ryder each did 3 pages in their critical thinking workbooks.

WEEK 14

Well, no pictures this week! This school year has been so hectic that I haven't taken as many pictures throughout the week as I would like. This week 2 of the kids had stomach bug and Mercer had to miss his Thanksgiving party at his co-op class. Life happens! We did manage to get all of our school work in at home though!
 
LANGUAGE ARTS
Mercer did Lesson 8 and 9 in All About Reading Level 3, the first half of WriteShop Level A Lesson 7, Week 12 of his Daily Reading Practice Workbook, 6 pages in Explode the Code Book 3, and Lesson 7 in handwriting.
 
Ryder did Fix It Grammar Week 13 on homophones and exclamation points, Week 12 of his Daily Reading Practice Workbook, took 2 timed reading tests, and 3 pages in his Word Roots workbook. He also worked on spelling through Spelling City using Natural Speller words and had a test. 
 
 MATH
Mercer did Day 90-97 in his Easy Peasy Math workbook.
Ryder did Lessons 48-50 and took quiz #7 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
 
 SCIENCE
This week Mercer started chapter 5 on tame animals and we learned about animals that make good pets and how to care for them and how they help care for us.
Ryder learned about current electricity (conductors and insulators), series and parallel circuits, magnetism, magnets, and uses of magnets.
 
SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 14 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer studied about  Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, The Grand Teton National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, and the Grand Canyon.
Ryder learned about the United States Capitol, the organization of US Congress, how the US Congress works, and how a bill becomes a law. He read 11 chapters in "Brighty of the Grand Canyon." He also learned about President Hayes and Garfield.
 
BIBLE
This week we started the book "The Ology" and read chapter 1 on God always was and always will be.
 
CRITICAL THINKING
Mercer and Ryder each did 4 pages in their critical thinking workbooks.
 
MUSIC
This week the kids learned all about the brass section of the orchestra! They also listened to music played by brass instruments.
 
TOT SCHOOL
We did Unit 4 Week 11 on Kindness. We traced a cat and wrote the Bible verse inside it, listened to "Hey Diddle Diddle" and "Oh, Be Careful Little Eyes," read a story in their virtue book about kindness, pretended to be a cat, ate grapes, read Richard Scarry's Best Little Word Book Ever!, read about David being kind to Mephibosheth in the preschooler's Bible, read about a kitchen in A Big Treasury of Little Animals, colored a picture of a cat, and read "The Three Little Kittens" poem.

WEEK 13

 
LANGUAGE ARTS
Mercer did Lesson 6 and 7 in All About Reading Level 3, the second half of WriteShop Level A Lesson 6, Week 11 of his Daily Reading Practice Workbook, 6 pages in Explode the Code Book 3, and Lesson 6 in handwriting.
 
Ryder did Fix It Grammar Week 12 on indenting paragraphs, Week 11 of his Daily Reading Practice Workbook, took 2 timed reading tests, and 3 pages in his Word Roots workbook. He also worked on spelling through Spelling City using Natural Speller words and had a test. 
 
 MATH
Mercer did Day 82-89 in his Easy Peasy Math workbook.
Ryder did Lessons 44-47 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
 
 SCIENCE
This week Mercer learned about safety.
Ryder started chapter 5 on electricity and magnetism. He learned about electric charges and static electricity.
 

SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 13 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer studied about Washington DC, Williamsburg Virginia, the Mississippi River and the Great Plains.
Ryder learned about the first lady, the white house, the white house residence staff, and going home to Monticello. He read 12 chapters in "Brighty of the Grand Canyon."
Both boys did a holiday study on Veteren's Day.
 

BIBLE
This week the character trait was thoughtfulness.
 


CRITICAL THINKING
Mercer and Ryder each did 4 pages in their critical thinking workbooks.
 
MUSIC
This week the kids learned all about the bassoon! They also listened to music played with the bassoon.
 
TOT SCHOOL
We did Unit 4 Week 10 on Kindness. The girls made their unit poster, listened to "Hey Diddle Diddle" and "Oh, Be Careful Little Eyes," read a story in their virtue book about kindness, ate grapes, read Richard Scarry's Best Little Word Book Ever!, read about Ruth and Naomi in the preschooler's Bible, colored shapes and kittens purple, read about a kitchen in A Big Treasury of Little Animals, played with a cat cookie cutter and purple playdoh, and read "The Three Little Kittens" poem.

WEEK 12

LANGUAGE ARTS
Mercer did Lesson 4 and 5 in All About Reading Level 3, the first half of WriteShop Level A Lesson 6, Week 10 of his Daily Reading Practice Workbook, 6 pages in Explode the Code Book 3, and Lesson 5 in handwriting.
 
Ryder did Fix It Grammar Week 11 on apostrophes with contractions, Week 10 of his Daily Reading Practice Workbook, took 2 timed reading tests, and 3 pages in his Word Roots workbook. He also worked on spelling through Spelling City using Natural Speller words and had a test. 

 MATH
Mercer did Day 75-81 in his Easy Peasy Math workbook.
Ryder did Lessons 41-43 and had quiz #6 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
 
 SCIENCE
This week Mercer did an experiment on clean vs. dirty hands and learned about teeth.
Ryder learned about these simple machines: inclined plane, screw, and wedge. We did an activity discussing tools and simple machines and how they could have been used to build the ark. He also took the chapter 4 test.
 
 

SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 12 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer studied about different ways Americans have sent messages to each other in the past and today - smoke signals, town crier, Pony Express, stage coach, telephone, mail truck, radio, newspaper, internet, and TV! He also learned about Plymouth Rock, Plymouth Plantation, Niagara Falls, the Statue of Liberty, Fort McHenry and the Star Spangled Banner.
Ryder learned about the responsibilities of the president, the leadership role of the president, a day in the life of a president, and the president's cabinet. He finished the book "A Letter to Mrs. Roosevelt." He also learned about presidents Johnson and Grant.


BIBLE
This week the character trait was orderliness.


CRITICAL THINKING
Mercer and Ryder each did 4 pages in their critical thinking workbooks.
 
MUSIC
This week the kids learned all about the saxophone! They also listened to music played with the saxophone.
 
TOT SCHOOL
We did Unit 3 Week 9 on Patience. The girls colored a picture of a duck. We listened to the songs "How Many Ducks" and "This Little Light of Mine." We read about patience in the first virtues book. We reviewed the three colors we have learned about and we counted up to 5 ducks. We read "The Fuzzy Duckling." We also read about Jesus going back to heaven in the preschooler's Bible. They colored a greeting card. We read a story about ducks in "A Big Treasury of Little Animals." We read the "Five Baby Ducks" poem.
