WEEK 36


Mercer completed All About Reading Level 3 this week! So we are officially on summer break! The kids have a summer school schedule though.

Mercer has to finish his Math Minutes workbook, work in his Math 2 workbook, finish his handwriting workbook, finish reading his Sonlight LA 2 readers, complete his Summer Bridge book, and read a chapter book.

Ryder has to finish his Math Minutes workbook, finish his Easy Grammar 4 workbook, finish his timed reading tests for level 5, read a chapter book, and complete his Summer Bridge book.

It seems like a lot, but it doesn't take them very long each day to complete their assignments and we don't even do everything every single day.

We worked on our summer assignments this past week to transition into our summer work from our traditional school year and it went great! I have a feeling this summer is going to fly by!

WEEK 35

LANGUAGE ARTS
 Mercer did Lesson 51-54 in All About Reading Level 3 and he completed Level 3, Sonlight 2 Readers, and did 8 pages in Explode the Code Book 5. He also worked on Handwriting Without Tears.
 
This week Ryder continued with Easy Grammar 4 and he finished up his Noun unit. He took 2 timed reading tests.
 
MATH
Mercer did Day 44-47 of Easy Peasy Math 2.
Ryder used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
Both boys worked in their Math Minutes workbooks this week.
    
SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 35-36 in their geography workbooks and they are complete for the year!
Ryder finished up his Notgrass History this week. We also read about Mother's Day for our holiday study and we read a book about the White House.
 
CRITICAL THINKING
Mercer finished up his critical thinking workbook this week by doing the last 5 pages!
 
BIBLE
The boys continued their daily bible reading.

WEEK 34

LANGUAGE ARTS
 Mercer did Lesson 50 in All About Reading Level 3, Sonlight 2 Readers, and did 8 pages in Explode the Code Book 5. He also worked on Handwriting Without Tears.
 
This week Ryder continued with Easy Grammar 4 and he took 1 timed reading test.
 
MATH
Mercer did Day 42-43 of Easy Peasy Math 2.
Ryder did Lesson 114 and took Quiz #16 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He's officially done with Teaching Textbooks 5! He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
Both boys worked in their Math Minutes workbooks this week.
    
 SCIENCE
Ryder took his chapter test and is officially done with science for the year!
 
SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 34 in their geography workbooks.
Ryder learned about serving in three branches of the federal government and a civics day in the USA. We also read a book about elections and the voting process.
 
CRITICAL THINKING
Mercer did 2 pages in his critical thinking workbook.
 
BIBLE
The boys continued their daily bible reading.

WEEK 33

LANGUAGE ARTS
 Mercer did Lesson 47-49 in All About Reading Level 3, week 30 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook (which is now completed!), Sonlight 2 Readers, and did 8 pages in Explode the Code Book 5. He also worked on Handwriting Without Tears.
 
This week Ryder continued with Easy Grammar 4. He took 2 timed reading tests and did week 30 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook (which is now completed!). He also worked on Spelling through Spelling City and Natural Speller and took a test. He is officially done with Spelling for the year! We completed all his 4th grade words and did a few weeks with 5th grade level words, so with only a few days left in school, we are saying we are finished with spelling!
 
MATH
Mercer did Day 36-41 of Easy Peasy Math 2.
Ryder did Lessons 110-113 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
Both boys worked in their Math Minutes workbooks this week.
    
 SCIENCE
Mercer learned about magnetic force and took his chapter 11 test. He is officially done with science for the year!
Ryder learned about muscles, health and protection (nutrition, exercise, rest) for the body and how we are created to work together.
 
SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 33 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer learned about postal employees and mayors in his Community Helpers book. He is officially finished with history for the year!
Ryder learned about how American's preserve history, saving George Washington's home, America's state parks, and working in tourism this week.
CRITICAL THINKING
The boys each did 4 pages in their critical thinking workbooks. Ryder finished his Critical Thinking workbook for the year.
 
BIBLE
The boys continued their daily bible reading.
 
MUSIC
This week the kids finished up their music lessons for the year. They learned about the conductor of the orchestra.

WEEK 32

The boys had their last co-op classes this week! It has been a bittersweet year being that we are finishing up the end of our homeschooling journey for the boys. I definitely cried after I dropped Ryder off for his last day of class! Thankful that I get another few months of them being at home with me every day until they start traditional school.
 


 
LANGUAGE ARTS

This week Ryder continued with Easy Grammar 4. He started his focus on nouns this week. He took 2 timed reading tests, and did week 29 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook. He also worked on Spelling through Spelling City and Natural Speller and took a test.
 
MATH
Mercer did Day 31-35 of Easy Peasy Math 2.
Ryder did Lessons 107-109 and quiz #15 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
Both boys worked in their Math Minutes workbooks this week.
    
 SCIENCE
Mercer started chapter 11 on pushes and pulls. He learned about forces, friction, and gravity this week.
Ryder started chapter 12 on bones and muscles. He learned about bones and how they provide support and protection, the parts of a bone, joints, ligaments, and cartilage.
 
SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 32 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer learned about bakers and servers in his Community Helpers book.
Ryder learned about the education of a president, the education of a nation, a home for American art, and a year of performing arts.
Both boys also did a holiday study about tax day.

The boys continued their daily bible reading.

This week the kids learned about the harpsichord. They listened to music played by the harpsichord.

This week Ryder continued with Easy Grammar 4. He finished up verbs this week. He took 2 timed reading tests, did week 28 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and finished his Word Roots workbook. He also worked on Spelling through Spelling City and Natural Speller and took a test.
 
MATH
Mercer did Day 27-30 of Easy Peasy Math 2.
Ryder did Lessons 103-106 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
Both boys worked in their Math Minutes workbooks this week.
    
 SCIENCE
Mercer learned about what we make from plants and what plants need. He also took is Chapter10 test.
Ryder learned about nutrition, nutrients, the 5 food groups, and took his chapter 11 test. 
 
SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 31 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer learned about farmers in his Community Helpers book.
Ryder learned about helping people in need through federal helping programs, state and local helping agencies, and private groups that help others.
Ryder also finished up his presidential study with Bush and Obama.

The boys continued their daily bible reading.
 
MUSIC
This week the kids learned about the piano. They listened to music played by the piano.

We are taking a break on tot school for a while! This mama is trying to get through finishing the school year with the boys along with hectic schedules!

Mercer did Day 21-26 of Easy Peasy Math 2.
Ryder did Lessons 99-102 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
Both boys worked in their Math Minutes workbooks this week.

Mercer started chapter 10 on plants. He learned about the parts of the plant for growing, roots, stems, leaves, and flowers.
Ryder started chapter 11 on digestion. He learned about the digestive system and all its parts.
 
SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 30 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer learned about dentists in his Community Helpers book.
Ryder learned about transportation this week - the progress of American's being on the move, how to build a road, traveling together on mass transit, and working in transportation.
Ryder also studied presidents Bush and Clinton.

The boys continued their daily bible reading.
 
MUSIC
This week the kids learned about the organ. They listened to music played by the organ.

The girls did Unit 8 Week 27 on Forgiveness. We read in the first virtues book, we read "Animal Orchestra," we listened to Sing for Joy and Zacchaeus on the music CD, the girls pretended to be tigers, and we read "God Helps Joseph" and "Joseph Has a Secret" in the preschooler's Bible.

He also read in his reader and did 8 pages in Explode the Code Book 5. He also worked on Handwriting Without Tears.
 
This week Ryder continued with Easy Grammar 4. He started focusing on verbs this week. He took 2 timed reading tests, did week 26 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and did 3 pages in his Word Roots workbook. He also worked on Spelling through Spelling City and Natural Speller and took a test.

Mercer did Day 17-20 of Easy Peasy Math 2.
Ryder did Lessons 96-98 and quiz #14 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.

Mercer finished up chapter 9 with a worksheet and took his chapter 9 test.
Ryder learned about man's responsibility with the Earth's resources such as choosing energy resources and conserving resources (reduce, reuse, recycle). He also took his chapter 10 test.
 
SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 29 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer learned about nurses in his Community Helpers book.
Ryder learned about American technology, going from tin cans to smart phones, the travels of a piece of mail, and the voice of America.
Both boys did a holiday study on Good Friday/Easter.

This week the kids learned about the keyboard instruments. They listened to music played by keyboard instruments.

The girls did Unit 8 Week 26 on Forgiveness. We read "Zacchaeus Climbs a Tree" and "A Boy Who Ran Away" in the preschooler's Bible, we read a poem about a Tiger, we read "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom," and they put black stripes on a picture of a tiger that had no stripes.

Both boys did Week 28 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer learned about doctors in his Community Helpers book.
Ryder learned about America's God-given resources, power to run America, Roscoe Wind Farm, and Government and Agriculture.

The girls listened made their unit poster, learned about the color orange and the tiger, ate orange foods (oranges, peaches, cantaloupe, and cheese), talked about forgiveness, did the number 3 worksheet, made their Bible verse poster, colored the greeting card, and colored the worksheet with different animals we have learned about and we also reviewed the different animals.

He also read in his reader and answered comprehension questions and finished Explode the Code Book 4. He also worked on Handwriting Without Tears.
 
This week Ryder continued with Easy Grammar 4. He took 2 timed reading tests, did week 24 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and did 3 pages in his Word Roots workbook. He also worked on Spelling through Spelling City and Natural Speller and took a test.

Mercer did Day 6-10 of Easy Peasy Math 2.
Ryder did Lessons 90-91 and quiz #13 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.

Mercer took his chapter 8 test and started chapter 9 on the sun, moon, and stars. He learned about the sun, the path of the sun, and the moon.

This week the kids learned about the celesta. They listened to music played by the celesta.

The girls started Unit 8 Week 24 on Friendliness. The girls listened to "Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone" and "Love One Another." We read "The Little Puppy" in A Big Treasury of Little Animals, made a verse card, colored the shapes on their color sheet, and read "Through the Roof" in the preschooler's bible.

 Mercer did Lesson 33-34 in All About Reading Level 3, week 23 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, Sonlight Language Arts 2 Week 9 which consisted of spelling words, copy work, and more on quotations, dialog and attibutions. He also read in his reader and answered comprehension questions and did 8 pages in Explode the Code Book 4. He also worked on Handwriting Without Tears.
 
This week Ryder continued with Easy Grammar 4. He took 2 timed reading tests, did week 23 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and did 3 pages in his Word Roots workbook. He also worked on Spelling through Spelling City and Natural Speller and took a test.

Mercer did Day 1-5 of Easy Peasy Math 2.
Ryder did Lessons 86-89 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
Both boys worked in their Math Minutes workbooks this week.

Mercer learned about the uses of sound.
Ryder learned about abrasion, soil, characteristics of soil, layers of soil, erosion and deposition, water and wind erosion, water and wind deposition, ice erosion and deposition, gravity erosion, and people and erosion.
 
SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 26 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer learned about police officers in his Community Helpers book.
Ryder learned about the American justice system, crime and punishment, Chuck Colson and Prison Fellowship, and the Supreme Court.  He also learned about the presidents Carter and Reagan.

The boys continued their daily bible reading.

This week the kids learned about the glockenspiel. They listened to music played by the glockenspiel.

The girls started Unit 8 Week 23 on Friendliness. The girls studied and traced the number 2, we read about Barnabas being a good friend in the preschooler's Bible, they pretended to be puppies, reviewed colors, shapes and animals we have learned about so far, colored a nursery rhyme picture, and colored a greeting card.

 Mercer did Lesson 31-32 in All About Reading Level 3, week 22 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, Sonlight Language Arts 2 Week 8 which consisted of spelling words, copy work, and exclamations/interjections. He also read in his reader and answered comprehension questions and did 8 pages in Explode the Code Book 4. He also worked on Handwriting Without Tears.
 
This week Ryder continued with Easy Grammar 4 and worked on prepositions, prepositional phrases, and object of the preposition. He took 2 timed reading tests, did week 22 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and did 3 pages in his Word Roots workbook. He also worked on Spelling through Spelling City and Natural Speller and took a test.
 
MATH
Mercer did Day 174-180 in his Easy Peasy Math workbook. He is finished with Easy Peasy Math 1 and will move onto Easy Peasy Math 2 next week!
Ryder did Lessons 83-85 and took quiz #12 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
Both boys worked in their Math Minutes workbooks this week.
    
 SCIENCE
Mercer learned about how sound moves and sound and matter
Ryder started Chapter 9 this week on weathering and erosion. He learned about changes on the Earth, landform changes, and changes from weathering.
 
SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 25 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer learned about firefighters in his Community Helpers book.
Ryder learned about hometown security, calling 9-1-1, fighting fires and saving lives, and the weather.
Both boys did a holiday study about George Washington's birthday.

The girls started Unit 8 Week 22 on Friendliness. We made the unit poster, read in the First Virtues book, learned the color blue, read a story in the Margaret Wise Brown Treasury, read about David and Jonathan being friends in the preschooler's Bible, and read the dog poem this week!

WEEK 24

LANGUAGE ARTS
 Mercer did Lesson 29-30 in All About Reading Level 3, week 21 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and Lesson 17 in handwriting. He also did Sonlight Language Arts 2 Week 7 which consisted of spelling words, copy work, and alliteration. He also read in his reader and answered comprehension questions and did 11 pages in Explode the Code Book 4. I have decided to stop doing the handwriting workbook he was doing. We started on Handwriting Without Tears this week to work out throughout the remainder of the school year.
 
I decided to change up grammar for Ryder. Instead of doing Fix-It Grammar, he will be doing Easy Grammar Book 4 now. We started this week and he is working through the pages on prepositions. He took 2 timed reading tests, did week 21 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and did 3 pages in his Word Roots workbook. He also worked on Spelling through Spelling City and Natural Speller and took a test.
 
MATH
Mercer did Day 166-173 in his Easy Peasy Math workbook.
Ryder did Lessons 79-82 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
Both boys are working their way through Math Minutes which is a workbook with 10 problems a day. It is a mixture of problems and has been a great daily review for them! They are working through their appropriate grade level right now, but when they finish this book, they will continue on throughout the summer and move up to the next grade level.
    
 SCIENCE
Mercer started chapter 8 on sound this week. He learned how sound is made.
Ryder learned about oceans, the ocean floor, ocean creatures, God's wisdom in His creation, hypothesis and how whales were created, and took his chapter 8 test this week.
 
SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 24 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer learned about pastors in his Community Helpers book.
Ryder learned about homeland security, helping our country be safe, the secret service, protecting America's borders, and how an immigrant becomes a citizen.
Both boys did a holiday study about Valentine's Day.
 
 
CRITICAL THINKING
The boys each did 4 pages in their critical thinking workbooks.
 
BIBLE
The boys continued their daily bible reading.
 
MUSIC
This week the kids learned about cymbals, the gong, and the tam-tam. They listened to music played by cymbals, the gong, and the tam-tam.
 
TOT SCHOOL
We did Unit 7 Week 21. We reviewed all the animals the girls have studied so far, did a musical color walk focusing on the color blue, played with blue playdoh and a bear cookie cutter, and matched animals to their shadows!

 Mercer did Lesson 27-28 in All About Reading Level 3, week 20 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and Lesson 16 in handwriting. He also did Sonlight Language Arts 2 Week 6 which consisted of spelling words, copy work, and writing a recollection paragraph. He also read in his reader and answered comprehension questions  and did 8 pages in Explode the Code Book 4. 
 
Ryder did Fit It Grammar Week 21 on clause starters, took 2 timed reading tests, did week 20 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and did 3 pages in his Word Roots workbook. He also worked on Spelling through Spelling City and Natural Speller and took a test.
 
MATH
Mercer did Day 158-165 in his Easy Peasy Math workbook.
Ryder did Lessons 76-78 and quiz #11 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
   
 SCIENCE
Mercer learned about parts of things being matter this week and he took his chapter 7 test.
Ryder started learned about tides, waves, and currents this week.
 
SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 23 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer did a map skills activity in his Community Helpers book.
Ryder learned about Native American Tribal Government this week. He also studied the presidents Nixon and Ford.

We did Unit 7 Week 20 on politeness this week. We studied the number 1, read a panda bear poem, pretended to be pandas, did a poster with the panda bear and bible verse, read "The Boy Jesus" and "Jesus Tells Wonderful Stories" in the Preschoolers Bible, and colored a greeting card.

 Mercer did Lesson 25-26 in All About Reading Level 3, week 19 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and Lesson 15 in handwriting. He also did Sonlight Language Arts 2 Week 5 which consisted of spelling words, copy work, dictating similes for me to write down, learning about and figuring out the parts of a story. He had to break down 2 stories and figure out the plot, setting, characters, and conflict/resolution. He also read in his reader and answered comprehension questions  and did 8 pages in Explode the Code Book 4. 
 
Ryder did Fit It Grammar Week 20, took 2 timed reading tests, did week 19 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and did 3 pages in his Word Roots workbook. He also worked on Spelling through Spelling City and Natural Speller and took a test.
 
MATH
Mercer did Day 150-157 in his Easy Peasy Math workbook.
Ryder did Lessons 71-75 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
   
 SCIENCE
Mercer learned about gases this week.
Ryder started Chapter 8 this week on water and oceans. He learned about water in motion, water on the Earth, and the water cycle.
 
SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 22 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer started his new Community Helpers activity book this week. We talked about maps, our community, and ways people can help at home and in the community.
Ryder learned about the local government and all about the courthouse, city hall, working together for a stop sign, and hometown celebration.
Both boys did a holiday study on Groundhog Day. They were so sad that the groundhog saw his shadow... 6 more weeks of winter weather!
This week they made a groundhog that casts a shadow in their coop art class!
 
 
CRITICAL THINKING
The boys each did 4 pages in their critical thinking workbooks.
 
BIBLE
The boys continued their daily bible reading.
 
MUSIC
This week the kids learned about the bass and snare drums. They listened to music played by the bass and snare drums.
 
TOT SCHOOL
We did Unit 7 Week 19 on politeness this week. We did the unit poster, talked about pandas and the color blue, listened to the songs "Down by the Station" and "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands," read Panda is Polite in the First Virtues book, ate blueberries and blue corn tortilla chips, read "Dinner at the Panda Palace," talked about using the word please, read "God Sends Special Food," in the Preschoolers Bible, and read a story in the Margaret Wise Brown Treasury.

WEEK 21

LANGUAGE ARTS
 Mercer did Lesson 22-24 in All About Reading Level 3, week 18 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and Lesson 14 in handwriting. He also did Sonlight Language Arts 2 Week 4 which consisted of spelling words with two syllables, copy work, journal writing, reading in his reader and answering comprehension questions, and 8 pages in Explode the Code Book 4. 
 
Ryder did Fit It Grammar Week 19 on prepositions, took 2 timed reading tests, did week 18 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and did 3 pages in his Word Roots workbook. He also worked on Spelling through Spelling City and Natural Speller. He will finish this group of words and have his test next week.
 
MATH
Mercer did Day 142-149 in his Easy Peasy Math workbook.
Ryder did Lessons 69-70 and quiz #10 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
   
 SCIENCE
Mercer learned about liquids and did an experiment with thin and thick liquids.
Ryder learned about eclipses and the origin of the moon. He also took his Chapter 7 test.






 
 
SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 21 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer studied about Australia and Japan this week.
Ryder learned about the Presidents Kennedy and Johnson this week. He also learned about the state government this week.

CRITICAL THINKING
The boys each did 4 pages in their critical thinking workbooks.
 
BIBLE
The boys continued their daily bible reading.
 
MUSIC
This week the kids learned about the timpani. They listened to music played by the timpani.
 
TOT SCHOOL
We did Unit 6 Week 18 this week. This week we read about the ten men with leprosy in the Preschoolers Bible, talked about thankfulness, colored a squirrel greeting card, read some stories in the Margaret Wise Brown Treasury, matched animals together, pretended to be squirrels, and made the squirrel bible verse poster. I love these pictures of the girls with their acorns and squirrel that they colored! They both held them up right in front of their face for the picture! Oh! And we also practiced counting the squirrels and acorns.

WEEK 20

LANGUAGE ARTS
 Mercer did Lesson 20-21 in All About Reading Level 3, week 17 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and Lesson 13 in handwriting. He also did Sonlight Language Arts 2 Week 3 which consisted of spelling words with suffixes, copy work, adjectives, and writing with dialog, reading in his reader and answering comprehension questions, and 8 pages in Explode the Code Book 4. 
 
Ryder did Fit It Grammar Week 18 on it's vs. its, took 2 timed reading tests, did week 17 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and did 3 pages in his Word Roots workbook. He also worked on Spelling through Spelling City and Natural Speller and had a test.
 
 


MATH
Mercer did Day 136-141 in his Easy Peasy Math workbook.
Ryder did Lessons 65-68 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
   
 SCIENCE
Mercer took his chapter 6 test. He started on Chapter 7 which is about matter and he studied about solids.
Ryder made a model of the moon, learned about the moon's movements such as revolution and rotation, and the moon's phases.



 
SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 20 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer studied about Israel, India, and China this week.
Ryder learned about the Presidents Roosevelt, Truman, and Eisenhower this week. He also did a study of Martin Luther King Day and Inauguration Day.



CRITICAL THINKING
The boys each did 4 pages in their critical thinking workbooks.
 
BIBLE
The boys continued their daily bible reading.
 
MUSIC
This week the kids learned about the percussion section of the orchestra. They listened to music played by the percussion instruments.
 
TOT SCHOOL
We did Unit 6 Week 17 this week. This week we read about baby Jesus in the Preschoolers Bible and listened to the songs "I Thank God for You" and "The Wheels on the Bus." This week was a snowy week for us, so not much tot school happened!

WEEK 19

LANGUAGE ARTS
 Mercer did Lesson 17-19 in All About Reading Level 3, week 16 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and Lesson 12 in handwriting. He also did Sonlight Language Arts 2 Week 2 which consisted of spelling words with suffixes, copy work, creative writing focusing on action verbs, learning about similes, reading in his reader and answering comprehension questions, and 8 pages in Explode the Code Book 4. 
 
Ryder did Fit It Grammar Week 17 on adverbs, took 2 timed reading tests, did week 16 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and did 3 pages in his Word Roots workbook. He also worked on Spelling through Spelling City and Natural Speller and had a test.
 
MATH
Mercer did Day 130-135 in his Easy Peasy Math workbook.
Ryder did Lessons 63-64 and quiz #9 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
   
 SCIENCE
Mercer learned about animal marks.
Ryder started Unit 3 (Moon and Oceans) Chapter 7 (The Moon) this week. He learned about the moon's properties such as shape, size, atmosphere, temperature, mass, and gravity, the moon's light, and the moon's surface such as the Maria, mountains, rilles, and craters. He also did a "moon math" worksheet.
 
SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 19 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer studied about Italy, Kenya, and Egypt this week.
Ryder learned about the Presidents Coolidge and Hoover this week. He also learned about the United States military, four years at West Point, and Three Days of Marine Basic Training.
 

CRITICAL THINKING
The boys each did 4 pages in their critical thinking workbooks.
 
BIBLE
This week we started something different for the remainder of the school year. Both boys have daily reading Bibles, so they started on January 1st reading their assigned chapters everyday. We are excited to see them accomplish this goal throughout this year!
 
MUSIC
This week the kids learned about the tuba. They listened to music played by the tuba.
 
TOT SCHOOL
We did Unit 6 Week 16 this week. This week we made our unit poster, ate brown foods such as peanut butter and pretzels, played a "copy me" game, went on a color hunt to find things that were brown, read about Ravens giving Elijah good food in the Preschoolers Bible, colored a shape coloring sheet, and read the squirrel poem. We also practiced saying "thank you."
