LANGUAGE ARTS
Mercer did Lesson 25-26 in All About Reading Level 3, week 19 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and Lesson 15 in handwriting. He also did Sonlight Language Arts 2 Week 5 which consisted of spelling words, copy work, dictating similes for me to write down, learning about and figuring out the parts of a story. He had to break down 2 stories and figure out the plot, setting, characters, and conflict/resolution. He also read in his reader and answered comprehension questions and did 8 pages in Explode the Code Book 4.
Ryder did Fit It Grammar Week 20, took 2 timed reading tests, did week 19 of his Daily Reading Practice workbook, and did 3 pages in his Word Roots workbook. He also worked on Spelling through Spelling City and Natural Speller and took a test.
MATH
Mercer did Day 150-157 in his Easy Peasy Math workbook.
Ryder did Lessons 71-75 in Teaching Textbooks 5. He also used XtraMath online to work on his Math Facts.
SCIENCE
Mercer learned about gases this week.
Ryder started Chapter 8 this week on water and oceans. He learned about water in motion, water on the Earth, and the water cycle.
SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
Both boys did Week 22 in their geography workbooks.
Mercer started his new Community Helpers activity book this week. We talked about maps, our community, and ways people can help at home and in the community.
Ryder learned about the local government and all about the courthouse, city hall, working together for a stop sign, and hometown celebration.
Both boys did a holiday study on Groundhog Day. They were so sad that the groundhog saw his shadow... 6 more weeks of winter weather!
This week they made a groundhog that casts a shadow in their coop art class!
CRITICAL THINKING
The boys each did 4 pages in their critical thinking workbooks.
BIBLE
The boys continued their daily bible reading.
MUSIC
This week the kids learned about the bass and snare drums. They listened to music played by the bass and snare drums.
TOT SCHOOL
We did Unit 7 Week 19 on politeness this week. We did the unit poster, talked about pandas and the color blue, listened to the songs "Down by the Station" and "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands," read Panda is Polite in the First Virtues book, ate blueberries and blue corn tortilla chips, read "Dinner at the Panda Palace," talked about using the word please, read "God Sends Special Food," in the Preschoolers Bible, and read a story in the Margaret Wise Brown Treasury.
