Unit 11: INSECT

We learned “I am a wise child, so I work hard."
The letter is Ii

These were our books this week.

  PHONICS
Ryder had several phonics and handwriting worksheets this week. He completed Lesson 15 in All About Reading Level 1.

  MATH
Ryder finished through Lesson 114 in Abeka Math K.

MUSIC
This week the boys listened to Rimsky-Korsakov: Flight of the Bumblebee. The boys pretended to be bees flying around the room.

SCIENCE/BIBLE
This week we studied "working hard." We read scriptures in Colossians, Psalms, Proverbs, and 2 Thessalonians.

Ryder made an ant out of playdoh and pipe cleaners. We learned about the 3 body parts of insects (head, thorax, and abdomen). And that ants have 6 legs!
We studied ladybugs and Ryder made thumb print ladybugs! Interesting fact: Ladybugs are known as an "insect predator" and eats harmful insects that destroy plants.
We studied bees. Ryder drew hexagons to make a honeycomb. He also drew a queen bee! Interesting fact: Bees make wax in their bodies and use this wax to make their home, the honeycomb. A honeycomb is used to store honey and to hold the eggs and larvae.
Of course the boys had the try some honey! Ryder did not like it... Mercer asked for more!
The main science project of the week was this ant hill! It was amazing watching the ants work together to build tunnels over several days.
