WEEK 12

BIBLE/HISTORY
The memory verse for this week was "A wise son heeds his father's instruction, but a mocker does not listen to rebuke." Proverbs 13:1 Ryder practiced handwriting by writing out the Bible verse and he went over the verse daily. Each morning we also did a devotional from "My Big Book of 5-minute Devotionals." We also finished up our character trait study of honesty. We also learned about the books of the Bible Genesis through Numbers.

 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Lesson 21 and 22 in All About Reading Level 3. He also had several handwriting and phonics worksheets. He did First Language Lessons Level 1 Lessons 35 through 38. He continued with reading a story about day 1 and 2 of creation from his Bible Reader and illustrating it too.


 MATH
Ryder finished Lessons 42 through 44 in Horizons Math 1.
 SCIENCE
The topic was "Under the Sea." We read the Usborne book: Things Outdoors and a read-aloud book.
 ART
This week Ryder studied the painting "Dramatic Landscape" by Paul Klee. At a first glance, this looks like a colorful doodle. But the yellow sun is a clue - it's also a landscape. Ryder colored in some doodle shapes for his art project!
 PRESCHOOL for MERCER
This week Mercer did the letter L. I love his lips in these pictures! He makes that face all the time!

WEEK 11

BIBLE/HISTORY
The memory verse for this week was "The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful." Proverbs 12:22 Ryder practiced handwriting by writing out the Bible verse and he went over the verse daily. Each morning we also did a devotional from "My Big Book of 5-minute Devotionals." We also reviewed the definition of honesty.

 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Lesson 19 and 20 in All About Reading Level 3. He also had several handwriting and phonics worksheets. He did First Language Lessons Level 1 Lessons 31 through 34. He also completed All About Spelling Level 1 Lesson 7. This week, Ryder started reading his Bible Reader that came with the My Father's World curriculum. I love that he will be reading Bible stories throughout the year!
 


 MATH
Ryder finished Lessons 38 through 41 in Horizons Math 1. He got a 38/40 on his 4th test!

 SCIENCE
The topic was "Beaches." We read the Usborne book: Things Outdoors and a read-aloud book.
 ART
This week Ryder studied the painting "The Intimate Newspaper" by Rene Magritte. Artist Rene Magritte painted strange, dream-like combinations - such as this outline of a man filled with clouds. Ryder had outlines of different objects and animals and he had to fill them in with whatever he wanted to!

WEEK 10

BIBLE/HISTORY
The memory verse for this week was "Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing." Proverbs 12:18 Ryder practiced handwriting by writing out the Bible verse and he went over the verse daily. Each morning we also did a devotional from "My Big Book of 5-minute Devotionals." On Monday, I read a history story about Abe Lincoln that related to honesty.  The rest of the week we reviewed the definition of honesty.
 

 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Lesson 17 and 18 in All About Reading Level 3. He also had several handwriting and phonics worksheets. He did First Language Lessons Level 1 Lessons 24 through 30 and All About Spelling Level 1 Lesson 6. He had his first spelling test and made a 10/10!


 
 MATH
Ryder finished Lessons 33 through 37 in Horizons Math 1. He started double digit addition this week and picked up on it easily!
 
 
SCIENCE
The topic was "Rivers." We read the Usborne book: Things Outdoors and a read-aloud book.
 ART
This week Ryder studied the painting "Padmini" by Julian Opie. He had some faces to finish with drawing hair and adding sticker accessories!
 PRESCHOOL for MERCER
This week Mercer did the letter J and the number 10.

WEEK 9

BIBLE/HISTORY
The memory verse for this week was "A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control." Proverbs 29:11 Ryder practiced handwriting by writing out the Bible verse and he went over the verse daily. Each morning we also did a devotional from "My Big Book of 5-minute Devotionals." We started a new character trait that we will be learning and reviewing for the next 4 weeks. This month we are focusing on honesty. On Monday, the boys watched a nature story about the humpback whale and did a coloring sheet. The rest of the week we reviewed the definition of honesty.


 Ryder learned about where Jesus lived when he came to Earth (Israel). He drew a Bible Lands map and learned a silly sentence to remember the bodies of water. 
 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Lesson 14 through 16 in All About Reading Level 3. He also had several handwriting and phonics worksheets. He did First Language Lessons Level 1 Lessons 19 through 23 and All About Spelling Level 1 Lesson 5.
 MATH
Ryder finished Lessons 27 through 32 in Horizons Math 1. He also got a 100 on his 3rd Math test!
 
SCIENCE
The topic was "Thunder and Lightening." We read the Usborne book: Things Outdoors and a read-aloud book. The boys also watched a Magic School Bus DVD about the weather.
 ART
This week Ryder painted "Anemones" by Raoul Dufy with watercolors.

This week Mercer did the letter I and the number 9.

WEEK 8

BIBLE/HISTORY
The memory verse for this week was "He who gathers crops in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son." Proverbs 10:5. Ryder practiced handwriting by writing out the Bible verse and he went over the verse daily. Each morning we also did a devotional from "My Big Book of 5-minute Devotionals." We continued our daily review of the character trait enthusiasm.
 
 
 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Lesson 12 and 13 in All About Reading Level 3. He also had several handwriting and phonics worksheets. He did First Language Lessons Level 1 Lessons 14 through 18.

 MATH
Ryder finished Lessons 23 through 26 in Horizons Math 1.
 
 SCIENCE
The topic was "Rain." We read the Usborne book: Things Outdoors and several read-aloud books about rain.
 ART
This week Ryder colored "Tiger" by an unknown Chinese artist. This tiger picture was made by a traditional Chinese artist. In China, the tiger is a symbol of courage. The artist cut out a delicate paper shape and then painted it. The main color is red, which in China is the color of happiness and good fortune.

This week Mercer did the letter H and the number 8.
