WEEK 22

BIBLE/HISTORY
The memory verse for this week was "Even a child is known by his actions, by whether his conduct is pure and right." Proverbs 20:11 Ryder practiced handwriting by writing out the Bible verse and he went over the verse daily. All week we reviewed the definition of gratefulness. We also learned about the books of the Bible Mark through Acts. We studied the ten commandments, the tabernacle, the twelve spies, Jericho and Rahab. He colored the ten commandments and added it to our timeline.
 
 
 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Lesson 42 and 43 in All About Reading Level 3. He also had several handwriting and phonics worksheets. He did First Language Lessons Level 1 Lessons 74 through 76. He did All About Spelling Level 1 Lesson 15. He continued with reading a story from his Bible Reader about the ten commandments and the twelve spies. And he illustrated the stories in his Bible notebook.

 MATH
Ryder finished Lessons 81 through 84 in Horizons Math 1.
 SCIENCE
This week we studied water's "skin" and did a few experiments.
 Experiment #1 ~ Bulging Glass ~ We observed the water rise above the glass but not overflow when we added coins to the glass.
Experiment #2 ~ Flattening Drops ~ I put some drops on a plate with a spoon and used a straw dipped in dishwashing liquid to make the skin stretch so the drops could spread out.
 
Experiment #3 FAIL ~ Floating a Needle ~ We attempted to float a needle on water but just couldn't get it to work!
 
 ART
Ryder continued with "Enjoying Art Together" this week. We studied the artwork "Self-Portrait with Monkey" by Frida Kahlo. Ryder did a great job examining the picture and answering questions about the painting.
 PRESCHOOL for MERCER
This week Mercer did the letter V this week.

WEEK 21

BIBLE/HISTORY
The memory verse for this week was "In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:6 Ryder practiced handwriting by writing out the Bible verse and he went over the verse daily. On Monday, the boys colored a porcupine for the character study we are focusing on. The rest of the week we reviewed the definition of gratefulness. We also learned about the books of the Bible Haggai through Matthew. We studied the red sea, bitter water, manna, and water from a rock. He colored manna and added it to our timeline.
 



 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Lesson 39 through 41 in All About Reading Level 3. He also had several handwriting and phonics worksheets. He did First Language Lessons Level 1 Lessons 70 through 73. He continued with reading a story from his Bible Reader about the red sea and manna. And he illustrated the stories in his Bible notebook.



 MATH
Ryder finished Lessons 77 through 80 in Horizons Math 1. He got a 26/27 on test #8.
 ART
Ryder continued with "Enjoying Art Together" this week. We studied the artwork "Summer's Day" by Berthe Morisot. Ryder did a great job examining the picture and answering questions about the painting.

This week Mercer did the letter U this week.

WEEK 20

BIBLE/HISTORY
The memory verse for this week was "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." Proverbs 3:5 Ryder practiced handwriting by writing out the Bible verse and he went over the verse daily. We started a new character trait that we will be learning and reviewing for the next 4 weeks. This month we are focusing on gratefulness. On Monday, the boys watched a nature story about porcupines. The rest of the week we reviewed the definition of gratefulness. We also learned about the books of the Bible Micah through Zephaniah. We studied the burning bush, the ten plagues, and the Passover/leaving Egypt.
 

 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Lesson 37 and 38 in All About Reading Level 3. He also had several handwriting and phonics worksheets. He did First Language Lessons Level 1 Lessons 67 through 69. He continued with reading a story from his Bible Reader about the burning bush and the ten plagues. And he illustrated the stories in his Bible notebook. He also did All About Spelling Level 1 Lessons 13 and 14.
 MATH
Ryder finished Lessons 73 through 76 in Horizons Math 1.
 
SCIENCE
The topic was "Floating." We read the Usborne book: Science with Water and did a science project to see which items would float and which ones would sink. The more heavy the object the more it sank.
 
ART
Ryder continued with "Enjoying Art Together" this week. We studied the artwork "Lady with an Ermine" by Leonardo da Vinci. Ryder did a great job examining the picture and answering questions about the painting.

This week Mercer did the letter T this week.

WEEK 19

BIBLE/HISTORY
The memory verse for this week was "Do not say, 'I'll pay you back for this wrong!' Wait for the Lord and he will deliver you." Proverbs 20:22 Ryder practiced handwriting by writing out the Bible verse and he went over the verse daily. All week we reviewed the definition of the character trait responsibility. We also learned about the books of the Bible Joel through Jonah. We studied Joseph, Israel in Egypt, and Moses. And added pictures of these events to the timeline.


 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Lesson 35 and 36 in All About Reading Level 3. He also had several handwriting and phonics worksheets. He did First Language Lessons Level 1 Lessons 62 through 66. He continued with reading a story from his Bible Reader about Joseph and Moses. And he illustrated the stories in his Bible notebook.



  MATH
Ryder finished Lessons 69 through 72 in Horizons Math 1. He got a 37/41 on test #7.
 SCIENCE
The topic was "Experimenting with Water." We read the Usborne book: Science with Water and did a science project seeing how water can change shape.
 ART
Ryder continued with "Enjoying Art Together" this week. We studied the artwork "Sea at Satta" by Ando Hiroshige. Ryder did a great job examining the picture and answering questions about the painting.
 PRESCHOOL for MERCER
This week Mercer did the letter S.
 He has been wanting to use a pencil more instead of crayons and he did really well tracing the "s" this week!
