WEEK 16

BIBLE
We continued our Matthew study this week and started chapter 7.
 
LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Spelling Lesson 16 and got a 16/16 on his spelling test.
They both did handwriting.
Ryder did lesson 21-22 this week in English.
Mercer did Lesson 31-32 in All About Reading Level 1.
Ryder had reading time every day. He is doing a literature notebook study on "Stuart Little." He read chapters 1-3.
For read aloud time we are reading Christmas books this month!
 
GEOGRAPHY
 This week we studied Peru! We located it on our map, did a coloring page of the country, a fact worksheet, watched a video on Machu Picchu, and read many of the country's facts.
 
SCIENCE
This week we did Apologia Swimming Creatures Lesson 6 which was all about Fish!

MATH
Mercer did lessons 61-64 in Horizons Math. Ryder did lessons 26-29 in Teaching Textbooks.
 
MUSIC
We listened to Geography Songs CD to memorize the countries of Central and South America.
 
Co-Op
For geography, the boys made a postcard at home on Peru and shared the fact that they drew and wrote about with the class. We also did a flag worksheet, a word search, and they colored a picture of Machu Picchu which is one of the 7 wonders of the world. For science they worked in their Apologia Jr. Notebooks.

WEEK 15

BIBLE
We continued our Matthew study this week and read some in chapter 6.
 
LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Spelling Lesson 15 and got a 16/16 on his spelling test.
They both did handwriting.
Ryder did lesson 19-20 this week in English.
Mercer did Lesson 28-30 in All About Reading Level 1.
Ryder had reading time every day. He read "Flat Stanley's Christmas Adventure."
For readaloud time we are reading Christmas books this month!
 
GEOGRAPHY
 This week we studied Venezuela! We read about the South American culture in our Usborne geography encyclopedia, located it on our world map, did a few worksheets including coloring the country and the flag, read country facts, and watched a video on Angel Falls.


 
MATH
Mercer did lessons 57-60 in Horizons Math. Ryder did lessons 20-25 in Teaching Textbooks.
 
MUSIC
We listened to Geography Songs CD to memorize the countries of Central and South America.
 
Co-Op
The boys did speeches on Venezuela and some worksheets. For art they drew a picture of the highest waterfall in the world, Angel Falls, which is located in Venezuela. For science, they did experiments with eggs! They tried to crack an egg with their bare hand and they stacked books on top of eggs to see how many books it would hold before it collapsed! It held between 5 and 6 books which was around 16 pounds!

WEEK 14

BIBLE
We continued our Matthew study this week and read some in chapter 6.
 
LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Spelling Lesson 14 and got a 16/16 on his spelling test.
They both did handwriting.
Ryder did lesson 17-18 this week in English.
Mercer did Lesson 27 in All About Reading Level 1.
Ryder had reading time every day. He read "What Was the First Thanksgiving?"
We finished our read aloud "Bash and the Pirate Pigs."
 
GEOGRAPHY
 This week we studied Panama! We read about the country in our Usborne geography encyclopedia, located it on our world map, did a few worksheets including coloring the country and the flag, read country facts, and watched a video on the Panama Canal, and ate tropical fruit for a snack!




MATH
Mercer did lessons 53-56 in Horizons Math. Ryder did lessons 16-19 in Teaching Textbooks.
 
MUSIC
We listened to Geography Songs CD to memorize the countries of Central and South America.
 
Co-Op
For the Wednesday class, the boys had a Thanksgiving Feast! Ryder's class dressed as Pilgrims and Mercer's class dressed as Indians!

 

For the Thursday group, the kids did a flag worksheet, did speeches on a fact about Panama, and colored a picture of Panamanian children for art. They also did Apologia Swimming Creatures Lesson 4 on Turtles! They completed several pages in their Junior Notebook.

WEEK 13

BIBLE
We continued our Matthew study this week and finished Chapter 5 and read just a little bit in Chapter 6.
 
LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Spelling Lesson 13 and got a 16/16 on his spelling test.
They both did handwriting.
Ryder did lesson 16 this week in English.
Mercer did Lesson 25-26 in All About Reading Level 1.
Ryder had reading time every day. He read "Flat Stanley's Worldwide Adventures: The Flying Chinese Wonders."
We read several chapters in our read aloud "Bash and the Pirate Pigs."
 
GEOGRAPHY
Tuesday was election day! So we spent the day watching videos and doing fun worksheets to learn about the White House, the election/candidates, etc!

 
 The other days this week we studied Argentina! We read about the country in our Usborne geography encyclopedia, located it on our world map, did a few worksheets including coloring the country and the flag, we read about Carlitos who lives in Argentina, read country facts, and watched a few videos on Iguazu Falls which is the widest waterfall in the world located in Argentina and the tango dance which originated in Argentina.

 
MATH
Mercer did lessons 50-52 in Horizons Math. Ryder did lessons 13-15 in Teaching Textbooks.
 
SCIENCE
We did Apologia Land Animals Lesson 3 this week which was all about bears! We read some Usborne books too that were about bears. We love doing the Apologia Junior Notebook Journals too!
 
 ART
This week we completed our art project at co-op. It was a yarn art project. They made a snake out of yarn!

MUSIC
This week we listened to our Geography Songs CD on the South American countries. Hopefully we will have this song memorized and know all the countries in South America by the time we are done studying the countries we have planned to study from this continent!
 
Co-Op
This week in co-op the kids did their Argentina flag worksheet, their yarn art project, and did a speech on a fact that they learned about Argentina for geography.

 
For the science portion, they learned all about transpiration!

BIBLE
We continued our Matthew study this week and read some of Chapter 5.
 
LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Spelling Lesson 12 and got a 25/25 on his spelling test.
They both did handwriting.
Ryder did lesson 13-15 this week in English.
Mercer did Lesson 23-24 in All About Reading Level 1.
Ryder had reading time every day. He read "Flat Stanley's Worldwide Adventures: The African Safari."
We read several chapters in our read aloud "Bash and the Pirate Pigs."


MATH
Mercer did lessons 45-49 in Horizons Math. Ryder did lessons 8-12 in Teaching Textbooks.
 
We had a light week this week with sickness still lingering and Halloween! Ready to kick it into full gear again next week with a new country study!

WEEK 11

We managed to get some school done this week, but with coughs, colds, and stomach bugs we didn't do a lot and I don't have many pictures to show for it!
 
BIBLE
We continued our Matthew study this week and read some of Chapter 5.
 
LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Spelling Lesson 11 and got a 16/16 on his spelling test.
They both did handwriting.
Ryder did lesson 12 this week in English.
Mercer did Lesson 22 in All About Reading Level 1.
Ryder had reading time every day. He finished "Flat Stanley's Worldwide Adventures: The Japanese Ninja Surprise."
We read one chapter in our read aloud "Bash and the Pirate Pigs."
 
GEOGRAPHY
This week we finished our country study of Mexico! The boys did a worksheet about the flag of Mexico.
 
MATH
Mercer did lessons 41-44 in Horizons Math. Ryder did lessons 5-7 in Teaching Textbooks.
 
Co-Op
Our Thursday co-op did not meet this week due to sickness and people being out of town, so we postponed our North America party for next Thursday. However, Mercer's teacher from his Wednesday class sent me these pictures of the class on their nature walk!

WEEK 10

BIBLE
We continued our Matthew study this week and read some of Chapter 5.
 
LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Spelling Lesson 10 and got a 16/16 on his spelling test.
They both did handwriting.
Ryder did lesson 9-11 this week in English.
Mercer did Lesson 20 and 21 in All About Reading Level 1.
Ryder had reading time every day. He finished "Flat Stanley's Worldwide Adventures: The Amazing Mexican Secret" and started "Flat Stanley's Worldwide Adventures: The Japanese Ninja Surprise."
We read one chapter in our read aloud "Bash and the Pirate Pigs" ~ because I am still hoarse and coughing. Hopefully it will clear up soon so we can finish this book!
 
GEOGRAPHY
This week we continued our country study of Mexico! We read about Mexico in the Children's Atlas of God's World, ate enchiladas and chips and dip, learned the Spanish words for the different colors and Ryder did a worksheet on this (see below), and we read different facts about Mexico! The geography-themed vocabulary words that Ryder learned about this week were canyon and gulch.

 
MATH
Mercer did lessons 37-40 in Horizons Math. Ryder started a new Math this week and he LOVES it. It is on the computer and he is doing amazing with it. It is Teaching Textbooks 4. He did lessons 1-4 this week. I love that it incorporates speed drills too!

SCIENCE
This week we talked about deserts and cacti.
 
MUSIC
This week we listened to WeeSing Songs "El Coqui" and "Chi Chi Bud."
 
Co-Op
This week in co-op the kids painted their sun face pottery they made in class last week. These kids LOVE art projects and painting especially!
 



They also made tissue paper flowers. These are a popular decoration in Mexico.

For the Science portion, Ms. Emily talked about deserts and cacti. 

The kids then painted a sunset picture and added cacti at the bottom with black construction paper.
