BIBLE
This week we read about missionary kids in the book "Window on the World." We also read Hero Tales and Ryder copied the character quality we talked about each day. He also wrote out John 3:16 as part of his dictation assignment this week. The boys also wrote "Matthew" in Greek. We did an overview of the book of Matthew which we will begin studying soon.
LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Spelling Lesson 3 and got a 100 on his spelling test.
They both did handwriting.
Ryder did Lessons 9-12 in English. He studied more about subjects and predicates and diagramming.
Mercer did Lessons 7-8 in All About Reading Level 1.
Ryder had reading time every day. He finished The Magic Tree House Book #2: "The Knight at Dawn" and started The Magic Tree House Book #3: "Mummies in the Morning."
We also read several chapters in our read aloud book "Bash and the Chocolate Milk Cows."
GEOGRAPHY
This week we started our study of the USA. We read about North America in the "Children's Atlas of God's World." We talked about that the USA is in the northern and western hemispheres. Ryder labeled the USA, Canada, Mexico, Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Mississippi River, Great Lakes, Gulf of Mexico, and the Rocky Mountains on a map. Both boys colored pictures of the USA flag. Ryder also labeled many states on a map of the USA. He remembered almost all of them from Adventures last year! We discussed the ones that border our state, Tennessee. The geography-themed vocabulary words that Ryder learned about this week are forest and isthmus. We also read about 3 children who live in the USA in the book "Children Just Like You." They are really enjoying this book because it is about children who are their ages and it's neat to see how they are similar, yet different from them.
MATH
The boys did lessons 10-13. Ryder got a 68/70 on test #1.
