BIBLE
This week we read about the Navajo's in the book "Window on the World." We also read Hero Tales which was about Harriet Tubman and Ryder copied the character quality we talked about each day. He also wrote out Matthew 1:23 as part of his dictation assignment this week. We started our Matthew study this week and read Chapters 1 and 2.
LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Spelling Lesson 4 and got a 100 on his spelling test.
They both did handwriting.
Ryder did Lessons 13-16 in English. He studied about different types of sentences, capitalization, and started learning about quotation marks.
Mercer did Lessons 9-10 in All About Reading Level 1.
Ryder had reading time every day. He finished The Magic Tree House Book #3: "Mummies in the Morning" and #4: "Pirates Past Noon." He started The Magic Tree House Book #5: "Night of the Ninjas."
We also read several chapters in our read aloud book "Bash and the Chocolate Milk Cows."
GEOGRAPHY
This week we continued our study of the USA. We read facts about the USA and the boys got to do a critical thinking project - they had 4 colored pencils and had to color each state but no touching states could be the same color. It was hard for them but they had fun! They learned facts about the USA flag and they colored a picture of the flag correctly. The geography-themed vocabulary words that Ryder learned about this week are badland and butte. We also read about 2 more children who live in the USA in the book "Children Just Like You."
MATH
The boys did lessons 14-17.
The boys did lessons 14-17.
SCIENCE
We finished our study of Lesson 2 in Apologia Land Animals which is about Carnivorous Mammals. We did the science experiment that went along with the lesson. We made lemon jello and poured into two bowls. We turned one red. Daddy and Mammy had to smell and taste both bowls(without knowing the red was really still lemon) to see what they thought the flavor was! The conclusion was our eyes are a stronger sense! The red coloring made people think it was really strawberry or cherry, when really it was lemon! We also read information about deciduous and temperate forests. The boys drew and colored different types of tree leaves for a Tree Identification activity.
ART
This week the boys completed their art in their Thursday co-op class. They made quilts. Ryder's is on the left and Mercer's is on the right!
MUSIC
The boys listened to "Eentsy Weentsy Spider" on the WeeSing CD and they reviewed the Geography Song to learn continents and oceans.
Co-Op
This week in class they did USA puzzles, made their quilts for Art, did their Zoology Notebook Journal for Science, and sang some of the Wee Sing Songs for Music!
