BIBLE
We continued our Matthew study this week and read the end of Chapter 3 and some of Chapter 4. We read about William and Catherine Booth in Hero Tales and Ryder copied the character trait about creativity. We also learned about Garifuna in our book "Window on the World."
LANGUAGE ARTS
Ryder did Spelling Lesson 6 and got a 100 on his spelling test.
They both did handwriting.
Ryder started a new English program called Essentials in Writing. It is a DVD-based program and he likes it a lot! He watches a lesson on the computer and then does a corresponding worksheet. He did lesson 1-3 this week.
Mercer did Lesson 12 and 13 in All About Reading Level 1.
Ryder had reading time every day. He finished The Magic Tree House Book #7: "Sunset of the Sabertooth" and started The Magic Tree House Book #8: "Midnight on the Moon."
We also started a new read aloud book "Bash and the Pirate Pigs."
GEOGRAPHY
This week we started a new country study... Canada! We read facts about Canada, Ryder labels the provinces on a map, both boys learned about the flag and colored a flag. We talked about dog-sledding and the hotel made of ice (Hotel de Glace). We read about a little boy who lives in Canada in the book "Children Around the World." The geography-themed vocabulary words that Ryder learned about this week are bay and cape.
MATH
The boys did lessons 23-25.

SCIENCE
This week we talked about decomposers and scavengers and the food chain!
ART
The boys made soap carvings in co-op this week!
MUSIC
The boys listened to "Going Over the Sea" on the WeeSing CD. We also listened to a geography song to help learn the provinces of Canada.
Co-Op
This week the kids took a plane ride to Canada! When they got off the plane they had their passports stamped and they exchanged USA currency for Canadian currency. They then used their money to buy fruit which they ate as a snack! They learned a few French words that they had to use to communicate with such as: bonjour, merci, wee, and no! They did soap carvings for art, sang along to the WeeSing songs, and made flip books about the food chain!
